zup people.
Hope this is the right place to post this thread, if not, tell me where! thanx.

i am building a pc primarily for gaming within the next week and would like your guys insight.

it would be one of the two rigs:

Build 1
Intel Core I7 920
Radeon HD 4870 1GB (1x)
Intel "smack over extreme" or Asus Rampage II Gene
Transcend Gaming Ram DDR3 2GB 1800Mhz (2x)
Sata 500 HDD
PSU (still not sure of what size i need)

Build 2
Intel Quad Q9550
Radeon HD 4870 1GB (1x)
not sure of which Mobo to go with here.
Transcend Gaming Ram DDR3 2GB 1800Mhz (2x)
Sata 500 HDD
PSU (still not sure of what size i need)

so what i looking for from you guys is recommendations on components and PSU size for either rig.

Thanx

I'd go for the Q9550 option, or look into the new i5 CPUs. i7 is overkill for gaming and it's be wiser putting the money saved into a better GPU (i.e. HD4890).

A ±500watt PSU will be fine.

Check the VGA cards spec. for what size PSU it requires.

edit: agree with PP, 500W is normally sufficient.

I have the HD4850 X2 and what a card! not sure how the 4890 is but if its anything like the 4850X2 u wont be dissapointed :)

if i go for build 2 i can get better GPU like the others say. just wanna know if there will be a noticable diff between the 2 for eg. in crysis and GTA IV with high details

thanx drake. i was thinking i needed a 720W or so PSU.
and what make mobo do you guys think. ive been searching for days and theres just so many options. im looking for ddr3 support and Xfire

ive checked the diff between the 4870 1GB and the 4890 on tom's hardware and the 4870 performs better on almost all aspects.

Yeah, plus your mobo will be cheaper (get an Asus P5Q R ±R1400) and you can use DDR2 RAM which is cheaper than DDR3.

By the way, wait 2 weeks until you buy your graphics card... ATI 5xxx series coming out. :)

i7 920 R2400
Q9550 R1850
Transcend AxeramDDR3 1800 R1099
4870 R1800
Smak over MOBO R2200
Rampage 2 gene R3500 +-

soz i think im mistaken with the 4870 vs 4890. i think it was the 4870 X2. and does anyone know where you can buy Antec cases. looking for the antec sonata 3

+1 :D

Don't know of any brick & mortars with Antec cases. Online shops have them though.

Have you seen the HAF932 case? :p

Don't waste money on expensive RAM unless you have a very, very good reason. Slapping a "Gaming" tag on memory does not make it so....

+1

1-2% benchmark difference at best, and 0% real world difference.

cool thanx guys. think ill stick with ddr2. will come back for more questions later. im sure of it LOL
