It is beyond annoying when someone has sound so loud you can feel it in your car and it drowns out whatever you are listening to. It is selfish and shows you so inconsiderate of others you are willing to spend thousands of rand just to irritate them. Very mature.

I'm not saying upgrading your car audio is bad, but some cars have very good audio when they come out tye factory. The current cars I have deliver distortion free sound at loud levels with acceptable frequency seperation. Only change I made was fitting a mp3 capabile head unit to my old car and it's built in 4x50watt amp works fine.

In small/cheap cars you might want to replace the stock speakers, I have had little satisfaction with the stock setup you find in i10/Spark/Corsa Lite/Bantam.

Once you start fitting amps, bigger alternators and speaker in places where you have to cut holes for them, then you have gone too far.

This is what I would do if it was my car. Find out what size your stock speakers are. If 6.5" then get a 6.5" 2-way split (this has 6.5" woofer, tweeter & crossover). If 5.25" get a 5.25" split set, etc.

Get a decent 4 ch amp and a SVC 12" sub. Forget about DVC's.

I would recommend Targa for a budget install. Payntwagon used to sell a decent Targa combo.

6.5" Focal 30th anniversay splits, 4ch Arc Audio mini amp & a RE Audio 12" sub.

I have this almost 4 years now and it can go LOUD & clear. May people are impressed by the sound of my system.

I prefer to hear my music than having my car shake loose and just hear wind.

The average DVC can handle more power than a SVC BUT it has to be driven properly. A well matched SVC will sound better than a under driven DVC.

That said i see you have chosen a 2ohm DVC, which means you will have to make sure that you correctly match impedances otherwise you will end up with a blown amp. My suggestion is to run the 2 voice coils in series so that the amp will see a 4 ohm load.

You have chosen some nice components but make sure it is installed properly, the speakers should fit in the run-x, an a spacer/mounting ring will have to be cut in any case. Who is doing the install for you?


Maybe get the headunit and then get this:

You will need a monoblock to run a DVC, which means getting 2 amps. Rather get a SVC subwoofer.

Not true. It depends on the quality of the 4Chan. I used to run 2 X SVC's on a single 2Ohm bridge.

Basic advice:
[Insert Size] Splits in the front
[Insert Size] Coaxials in the back of the same channel as the splits
1, 2, (3, 5, 6 - idiotic?) Subs [Depends on Ohmage]
QUALITY 4chan amp
Spend 10% of the value of the setup on wiring. 4Guage power etc.

Stay away from 6X9's. They:
1. Make you look like an idiot
2. Advertise to thieves
3. Move the sound stage to the back. Do you go to concerts and stand with your back to the stage?

The RunX uses 6 inch speakers in front doors thought you can fit a 6.5 inch speaker in there. I had a full Rockford Fosgate system in my 2005 RunX with a Alpine CD headunit. RF Punch component speakers in front doors, 12" Punch P2 subwoofer in a slimline ported box and a Punch P4004 4 channel amp.

Sounded very nice. Sold that car and got a VW Polo about 4 years back. The Polo is now going in for its 3rd audio upgrade. Actually at the installer right now. Much higher end equipment now. Alpine headunit, Dynaudio component speakers for front doors, 2 x Mosconi Gladen One amps, a 10" Gladen SQX10 woofer, Stinger Roadkill sound deadening and a few custom touches in the install.

Used to have a golf with 6" splits in the front doors, 6x4 mid ranges in the plastic sections next to the boot board and a RF Punch Sub running off a 4x300 amp... used to pump... was so well balanced.

I am not 100% sure about 6.5" for RunX front doors.

Are you certain about the 6.5" fitting the front doors and if so is it different from the back(rear) doors.

I have to confirm this on Friday...i think removing the board cover will give me tough time...

Running 2 SVCs on a 2OHM load is correct. It is very difficult to run a DVC on anything but a monoblock, thats if you want to do it properly. Guys cry when their cars burn out because the install wasn't done correctly or mismatched components.

I would rate Targa above any of the cheaper brands.

Stay away from DVC unless you going to have a dedicated monoblock. So option 1 here isn't going to work. And you will need a mini powerplant to run it.

Option 2 might work if you run it bridged of a 4ch amp's rear channels. If I am correct this sub comes with a spec box.

Very nice!

I've never liked RF - they're expensive and give the bragging rights, but a little 'bleh'.

I ran MBQuart splits / Infinity sub / JL Audio sub and ran higher SQ than any of the guys with RF systems in their car - yet it was MBQuart was at the stage an unknown brand. If I remember they used to beat RF at the IASCA finals too and RF then decided to buy them.

My previous car came standard with 10 x Dyanudio speakers - fantastic as 'standard' sound
