So i intend to build my 1ST PC and purchase all the components on-line.

I have already decided on the specs as follows:

- Intel Core i5 750 2.66GHz LGA1156 Processor
- Kingston DDR3-1333 2GB
- Seagate 500GB Barracuda 7200.12 SATA300 16MB 7200RPM
- Tower (havent decided)
- Samsung SH-S223L, DVD DRIVE
- Samsung B2330H 23" LCD

Now, will all these components just slot into place?
What important things do i need to consider when building my own PC?
Are any ther any necessary specifications for the Tower?

All assistance will be appreciated

Thanks

What is the main use of the PC going to be? All other answers will stem from the answer to that question.

So you want to know if the parts will fit into the motherboard that you did not mention and the unknown case, keeping in mind that you have no budget :D

PSU might also be a good idea while we are listing things.

EDIT: Decent choice with the CPU though, cheap enough and can be overclocked nicely. Depending on mobo and cooling....

Yes, I'm sure that someone who seems to lack PC knowledge is interested in the CPU cause its a good overclocker and not the fact that it was recommended in the other thread the OP started.

My sarcasm button was temporarily disabled and I felt like saying something positive.
And at least he had enough sense to take into account what was said in the other thread.

Apologies, have been active in a rza thread. Back on topic, lets just wait until we find out what the budget and use of the machine will be.

@ Archer: Will just be using it for movies, MS word, photo editing, nothing hectic

@ TopCa7: Budget is R5500 - R6000

@ Bullzeye.za: I wasnt aware that i needed a seperate motherboard. any suggestions?

No worries. Know how it goes. Ever tried living with a philosophical vegan. Now thats fun!

Put together 2 nice builds this week so am actually interested in having some input in a thread for once and not just reading in the shadows.

You need the following:

Motherboard - to plug everything into.
CPU
RAM
Hard disk
Optical drive
Case
Power supply - although your case may already have one built in

I would suggest you look at an entry level dual/quad core, with an entry level motherboard. The i5 is almost R2000 and the motherboard another R1000. Hard disk is around R500 for a 500GB seagate. Case is around R300 for a cheap gigabyte with a PSU. Other cases retail for around R450 for an entry level case (No PSU), and then another R300-R400 for an entry level PSU. Ram is around R500 for 2GB. Optical drive R250.

You need to work out how much you can afford on the CPU/MOBO combo....

Motherboards normally come separate of the cpu mate.
So you got your Sammy 23" in mind. Decent price R1700-1500 so that leaves us with R3800-4300

Honestly if you want bang for your buck go with AMD, it will at least leave you with some head room to play around with extra cash for storage for all them movies and .xdocs
Otherwise its playing around with integrated graphics. You really not gonna be playing any games?

With the budget you have and considering you havent included a motherboard rather get the Athlon II 630.

Just do lots of research. Thats what Google and forums are for. Though you may have noticed the latter can be a little sarcastic :D

If you have a techie mate it always helps having him watching over you.
My first build done was a Celeron 300 and I got to doing that from watching friends disassemble and work on machines.

Its not for everyone true, personally I find it enjoyable choosing the parts I want and making a "custom" build. Some online shops pre-assemble pcs based on the parts you choose.

Don't give up on the idea completely.
