Hey guys

So heres another one of those build threads!

Getting most of my components from some family that are coming back from holiday in the US.

Specs:

Mobo:
- ASUS P6X58D Premium - USB 3.0, Sata 6G, 24GB Memory supported

Processor:
- i7 930 2.8 GHz

Video Card:
- Sapphire Radeon HD 5870 2GB Eyefinity 6

RAM:
- Corsair Dominator 3 x 2GB 1600MHz (to run tri-channel)

PSU:
- 1000W Coolermaster SilentPro

What you guys think?

Any noob tips I need to know? Like TurboBoost, Overclocking etc?

Also, I haven't bought a case and screen yet. Any suggestions?

Looking at:

Case:
CoolerMaster Sniper Black Edition, Antec 900 Two, or the Antec P183

Really like the look of the P183, but the ports on the side of the case are in a crap position in my opinion.. The 900 ports on the top of the case are much more convinient as my case will be under my feet!

Screen:
Samsung XL230 LED 5000000:1 contrast ratio.

Or the P2770H (might go for that one rather as its 27")

Is that screen worth it?

Thanks guys! :D

Look i have yet to see a led screen but i am not sure i would rather get a led 23" or normal 27" :D.

27" must be flippin insane!!!!!!!!

Everything looks good, but that 5870 2gb version is waaaay overkill if you are only going to have one screen. PSU is also way out there. Unless you plan on xfire down the road I'd say that setup will only pull around 500W max, so rather get something around 700W (nevermind, see you already have the PSU).
Then as case suggestions go, I'm obviously biased to the Sniper Storm, has all the front ports/butons on top. Also has a ton of space inside for wiring everything neatly, and will have no issues with the length of any graphics card out there.

Thanks :)

@Archer - Yeah I want it to last as long as possible, so I thought i'd rather pay the extra small amount now and get the 1000W PSU so that when I want to crossfire (or tri-fire :) ) in a few years or whenever, I don't need to change anything!
Same goes for the 2GB card. Wasn't that much more than the 1GB (About R800 more) so I thought I'd rather pay the extra amount now, then have to upgrade at a sooner stage in the future!

That Sniper Storm actually looks nice! Will consider that too!

@wpswart - The components above (minus the case and screen) come to about roughly +-R15.5k

Thanks guys!

Buying from the states is awesome :D saves you alot of simoleons! Just a pity that its difficult to bring cases and monitors back. Good luck with your rig, though I dont think you'll be needing it ;)

Cant go wrong with a decent 900-1200w PSU, nothing like buying a component that never needs upgrading:)

The HAF 932 case is also a good choice, lots of airflow and lots of space. Only thing the Sniper has in addition is the adjustable fans (dial at the front sets the speed). But the HAF does allow for water cooling setups without the need for any mods if you are thinking of going that way in the future.

That's exactly my system ( I went for the gigabyte mobo instead though ), with less ( but better ) RAM, and the graphics card that I almost bought ( *sad* I want a 5770.. ).

You'll get some good numbers out of it :P - Running mine at 3.6GHZ on stock cooling and voltages, and not a hiccup :)

My vote is for the P2770H - I have one and it is epic, though rather intimidating at first. You will get used to it, and anything smaller will just seem babyish.

Good luck with your system, and congrats on the i7 upgrade!
