Bulls rock Thread

Sorry, chaps and lasses! Maybe you can still make the finals?

Sharks are looking for 2 in a row! :D

We are black, we are white.........:D

btw, where was all the bulls fans, Im pretty sure the Sharks fans out numbered your'll ;)

A weak link as far as I am concerned. 2 weeks then MS should be back. :D

Burton was useless,

this season he's cost us a game with his kicking [one out of 12? something like that]

and saturday against the sharks as well....

Brummer is much better....

grats to the trolls in here, sharks deserved to win

Good to see some of our boks returning for the "smaller" game this weekend.

Chiliboy Ralepelle, Gurthrö Steenkamp and Wynand Olivier will be in the starting line up... Its a really good thing seeing as they have not had much game time the last month or so.

Then I am sure spies, bakkies, fourie, Victor, Morne and habana wil be ready for the next "big" game :)

Brilliant performance overall, let's hope the Blue Bulls keep their momentum moving into the next match.

Yeah good to see some nice backline running and the fowards working hard...

Steenkamp as well as potgieter did work very hard. Olivier was running some great lines and its good to see the team clicking in those last 30 mins.

Can not wait to now have spies, matfield, botha, habana, du preez and steyn back.

Bulls 30 - Cheetahs 27
Way to close for comfort.

But the build-up to the cup has started.

Yeap.

It was rather individual efforts that clinched this one for us than a great team effort.

I can not wait to have fourie, bakkies and Habana back, although I doubt they will play them against griekwas. They might be on the bench however.

Good to also see the Bulls did develop some talent this year (van der Heever, Hougard, Potgieter)

Olivier had a great game and probably saved the game for the Bulls.

Few strange decisions from the ref going both ways. But the one that stood out was Lionel Mapoe "tackling" the player in the air

Brussow just proved again that he is the find of the season along with Morne Steyn.

Heini Adams extremely slow at clearing the ruck sometimes.

Van den Heever and Mapoe are definitely stars for the future.

Bulls will be happy to have Bakkies back. Should make for a more stable scrum.
Habana to replace Hougaard with Hougaard on the bench for Fourie.

Read on Keo.co.za now that Bakkies and Fourie will be sidelined till the Semi-finals

The Bulls, even without the services of Springboks Fourie du Preez and Bakkies Botha – both expected to be sidelined until the semi-final – will finish in third position.

Think we will see how well the boks have "joined in" this weekend against griekwas.

For some reaso im not completely relaxed :o But its at loftus and im sure we will take it.

Watching this Bulls vs Griquas is a bit like watching any team play against the Springboks when it comes to refereeing decisions....

First try, forward pass to Kirchner not picked up....
Kirchner spear tackle only penalised, no yellow card as deserved.....
Griquas player yellow carded for a stiff arm tackle... two of the same, one for each team, earlier were just penalised and this one was not that bad...

This is the second time the Griquas are sucking the hind tit when it comes to decisions when playing the Bulls.

Kirchner spear tackle only penalised, no yellow card as deserved.....

Law 10.4 (i):

Lifting a player from the ground and dropping or driving that player into the ground whilst that player’s feet are still off the ground such that the player’s head and/or upper body come into contact with the ground first is dangerous play.
Penalty: Penalty Kick

The law was applied correctly.

Intentionally committing foul/dangerous play may be grounds for a yellow card (see law 10.2 (a), as was applied to Griquas' captain in the case of a professional foul) but that is up to the referee to decide. The alternative is to warn a player and caution him that a repeated infringement will result in a yellow card, as was done by Craig Joubert.

I do agree that there was a general lack of consistency. However, in this case he applied the law perfectly.

Law 10.4 (i):

The law was applied correctly.

We are all aware, well most of us it seems, that the IRB has stated that spear tackles are penalisable with a yellow card.

The law you so happily quote also states :

A ‘stiff-arm tackle’ is dangerous play. A player makes a stiff-arm tackle when using a stiffarm to strike an opponent.
Penalty: Penalty Kick

(l) Acts contrary to good sportsmanship. A player must not do anything that is against the spirit of good sportsmanship in the playing enclosure.
Penalty: Penalty Kick

So why were the two Griquas players sent off?!?! I'll answer, because a penalty is the minimum punishment to be metered out.

It's fine as in all likelihood Kirchner will be cited (I hope! Unless they get away with that too!).

We are all aware, well most of us it seems, that the IRB has stated that spear tackles are penalisable with a yellow card.

Could you please provide a link to the statement on the IRB website, or where it is specifically stated in the latest (May 2009 I believe) revision of the law book (not the "intentional foul play may be grounds for a yellow card" bit, but a specific references to spear tackles)? I searched but came up empty.

And yes, we are aware, hence my edit in my previous post. It is, however, up to the referee to decide whether intentional foul/dangerous play was committed.

I'll answer, because a penalty is the minimum punishment to be metered out.

As per the referee's discretion, yes. See my edit (didn't see your post before my edit) in my previous post. Stiff arm in the neck area sounds a bit more dangerous than a tackle where the player landed on his elbows, doesn't it?

It's fine as in all likelihood Kirchner will be cited (I hope! Unless they get away with that too!).

I'll leave it up to the rugby council to decide on the appropriate steps to be taken. I hope the no. 4 lock of Griquas and Bryan Habana are cited as well, as they also committed penalisable offenses (high tackles) which could also have resulted in yellow cards.

Anyway, before we get back into the circular argument of "the law X says Y", "but you can change law X so that Y changes to Z", "that's up to the referee to decide", "but the referee is wrong", "no he isn't, law X says Y", rinse, repeat cycle... :D

I'll wait for the councils to decide whether or not the law was applied correctly if it's all the same :p Otherwise we'll spend all day arguing about intent and the referee's take on the player's intent :D
