Bulls rock Thread

Ja, I don't think anyone is of the view that the area is unable to produce talent but many are of the view that the Kings in particular are unable to either develop and nurture or retain raw talent. Did any of those players actually play in the Kings? Or were they from surrounding teams, like Border and Elephants?

Which Kings do you mean? I was referring to the nonexistent Southern Kings. ;)
J Potgieter was playing for EP in the first division last year. Kirchner played Craven Week for SWD, but not higher. Ndungane did play for Border Bulldogs.

The thing that is whatever it is that plays First Div Currie Cup that is the remnants of what was EP. Potgieter you say played there? This is where the retention problem rears its head. I certainly appreciate, for example, what sand_man says above and all the things MD has been saying. Look, this thread is not the right place for that debate BUT I do think it may have been a little unfair to say that others accused the franchise of not producing talent - rather, they criticised the fact that any talent from that area had to be developed and nurtured elsewhere.

Just a pic I snapped on Saturday. He had a very good game.

I agree that the EC and surrounds produce great players but raw talent only gets you "that" far.

If EC rugby can get the structures in place (Like the Sharks and Bulls have done in recent years) they will reap the rewards in due time.

I can not wait for this weekend's match against the Stormers as it is defence vs attack and I am interested in what game plan the Bulls will follow as they seem to be playing every game differently.

Stormers are once again proving to be a bit of an enigma. They go from the sublime to the ridiculous, consistently in every match they play.

I'm not all that confident that they will produce much this season. Joe Pieterson looks out of his depth despite his best intentions, Duvenhage's kicking game is poor yet they seem intent on persisting with it, the tight five imposing at times can just as quickly withdraw into a submissive frame of mind instead of driving home the advantage. Loosies haven't quite clicked yet either.

Difficult to predict how their season is likely to progress. Mind you the uncertainty extends to the Bulls too... Totally outgunned by the Blues only to go on and thump the defending champs (albeit an injury plagued team).

Prior to this weekends fixture I would have said the Stormers by 8 or 9 but now I have no idea...

We had a very poor game against the Blues but I was not too worried because we missed 12 points (steyn) and we gifted them a try against the run of play. All and all that loss might have been a blessing :o

Team for 21 April

Bulls: 15 Zane Kirchner, 14 Akona Ndungane, 13 JJ Engelbrecht, 12 Wynand Olivier, 11 Bjorn Basson, 10 Morne Steyn, 9 Francois Hougaard, 8 Pierre Spies (captain), 7 Jacques Potgieter, 6 CJ Stander, 5 Wilhelm Steenkamp, 4 Juandre Kruger, 3 Werner Kruger, 2 Chiliboy Ralepelle, 1 Dean Greyling/Dawie Steyn.

Substitutes: 16 Bongi Mbonambi, 17 Frik Kirsten, 18 Gerrit-Jan van Velze, 19 Arno Botha, 20 Jano Vermaak, 21 Louis Fouche, 22 Johann Sadie.

Morne will need to have a better game, but I am very happy with this team.

JJ Engelbrecht is looking brilliant at centre and the forwards are showing that they are up there with the best.

Nice to have Vermaak and Sadie coming off the bench :D

Dean Greyling failed his final fitness test. Dawie Steyn will start.

Dawie Steyn did not have a bad game at all.

I was very pissed off at the pathetic tackling and defensive play in the last 20-15 mins.

Luckly Steyn had his kicking boots on and the bulls did enough to keep them from losing.

Yep, impressive debut for Dawie Steyn.

It almost seemed that the Bulls thought that they had a big enough lead and started to relax.

En toe het hulle vinnig wakker geskrik :D

That last try cost me a margin point on SB
