OK, now I am seeing reports on Twitter that the Taxi Driver did not flee, but actually stopped and it was he who called the EMS.

They say it was a taxi and the driver was questioned then released.

Alrich Rooy tweeted: “The death of Burry Stander needs to be a wake-up call to what’s happening on South African roads.”

With regards the above tweet and the same comment on tv this morning, what make this accident so different to the thousands killed on the road throughout the year, ALL accidents should be a "wake-up call", how many "wake-up calls" does it take for something to happen?

Agree 100%, typical retarded twitter comment. For that matter a drunk bum getting run over on the N1 should be a wake up call.

Until the traffic police start taking much more dramatic action, this will never change though. I know they might not have the means or manpower to do it, but then we need to look further up the ranks. There is a solution, it's just a matter of how badly you want to fix it.

If only the Traffic police would get serious about dangerous driving and unroadworthy vehicles, instead of being revenue collectors for the city councils, we may see better driving habits from the average road user.

No life should be more valuable then any other but you are always going to have the situation where the death of a "celebrity" garners more media attention. This media attention can be used to raise the necessary awareness. Sad as it is the media is jsut not interested in reporting on the death on that drunk bum on the N1. Nor is the public interested in reading about it.
