Business Dress Code: Dressing down in summer

I'd expect some form of business attire from any service provider when I want to do business. Not suit and tie but at least decently dressed in long pants, button up shirt. If you look like you're also on holiday then it seems like a casual deal, a quick deal, not too serious I suppose.

I can understand someone thinking that.

Khakis/jeans, closed shoes and a casual cotton shirt should be OK, provided you don't look sloppy. Your car and your offices must be air conditioned anyway.

DEFINITELY no shorts or sandals.

An estate agent spends about 20% of his/her day in the office. Majority is spent in the field as it were. So that does more often than not mean being out in the sun.

Interesting you should say this since some of the biggest business people in town wear jeans/flip flops and old t shirt.

Very much like Hawaii.

Huh? Wearing jeans and chinos IS dressing down. :p

I haven't worn a pair of jeans in 15 years. Wouldn't be seen dead in them.

Isn't that near Vleesbaai?

If you're selling property between R5m and R99m, don't wear jeans.
:D Vleesbaai / Herbertsdale / Calitzdorp was the western border of my area of responsibility while I was employed.

About +-15km from Mbay.

Interesting you mention that price range - I know of an agent on a luxury golf estate in the area who ONLY plays golf, never goes into the office; yet still sells crazy volume.

But I understand there is a perception about how one dresses relating to the intellect, financial and moral ability of a person.

I do wonder though what the results would be if i did dress in shorts and flipflops. :)

ShareMosselBay, I'm gently ribbing you. :) You know your customers and prospects better than anyone.

If you're gonna dress down, at least insist that sales staff are impeccably clean, washed, and groomed. I'd buy a seaside property from someone in shorts and a t-shirt, especially if her personality is 36+. But not from someone wearing slops.

The salesperson who dresses neatly (no casual clothing) usually will get more business as he/she will look professional.

Salespersons in shorts and flip-flops will be seen as amateurs.

If you are looking at how the salesmen are dressed you have already lost the game

Impressive... well, coming from someone who wear jeans about 93% of the time when leaving their humble abode for 'work'.

I was thinking somewhere along these lines:

and
2.jpg

or
3.jpg

Would you buy/rent property from a person dressed like this?
