Where do you get decent business shirts?

I'm talking quality shirts made from proper quality cotton etc. Sort of the quality of a Thomas Pink, Charles Tyrwhitt, Hackett level?

Edgars shirts are really bad. Havent tried woolworths yet.

I see Pink have opened in Hyde Park, JHB. Might need to head there but Im sure the prices will be high

Any ideas?

Woolies quality for the price is excellent.

Try the Trenery and Country Road range at Woolies, you would be looking at +-R500 per shirt.

Pringle is also good as well as Kurt Geiger.

Stuttafords is on sale now so you will pick up tons of specials.

Another suggestion is the Polo factory shop in Marlboro.

Now what i have also done is Meltz. Certain Meltz stores have Charles Tyrwhitt and Nordstrom double cuffed shirts from the UK. I bought a lot of them for R34-99 at Meltz Fourways.

If you have to do Edgars or use your Edgars card, go the Melrose Arch branch which has a slightly better selection range of clothing, other than that Edgars branded stuff eg D66 or J Exchange or Charter Club is absolute crap and normally fades after a few washes.

Now dependant on your budget, theres a lot more stores you can go to other than those above. Thomas Pink rocks, and when you finished there you can go into Jo Malone next door and have them make up your own exclusive designed cologne for you.

Most importantly remember for your expensive shirts rather get your domestic helper to hand wash your shirts rather than sticking them into the wash machine, thats crap for your shirts.

I dont go to Meltz often but aren't the tags of the brands normally taken off? How did you know they were Charles Tyrwhitt?

Just asking because it sounds like a very good deal :)

And it was R34.99 a shirt?

Excellent tips there, thanks! Didnt know about Meltz. Will head there this weekend.

Will report back

Us men, on our staff, recently got genuine Caterpillar checkered shirts with our schools name embroided on it, which we all wear on Fridays.

We all look like Hunks, Studs and Italian Stallions when we wear those shirts (even though 4 of the mentioned colleagues are fat-bellied 50yo-somethings --- they are legendary teachers by the way).

... and 2 of them are young, ripped 20-somethings to keep up the respectability of us men on the staff. ... ... I am ... unfortunately not one of those 2.

I'm one of the 30-somethings.

Some labels are not removed. But you can judge by the quality of the fabric.

And yes it was R34 a shirt. Just be cautious and check for rejects, thats why the shirts have been marked down and sent to SA. Meltz goes abroad and buy bulk over runs, factory rejects and brings them to SA for sale.

NOTE not all their stuff will be good you have to be selective with what you buy

If there are no formal shirts on display ask one of the sale staff they normally store stuff in the back room as i think they are now promoting summer clothing

Lions in Parktown.
they got good stuff man!

Thanks a lot! Will take a look next time I am there :)

Most of your cheap shirts are rubbish, low quality carded cotton.

Even the more expensive brands use pretty low quality shirts. I have yet to find a shop that sells something like a 190 gram super cotton.

Locally made t-shirts, costs around 45-50 without branding but the quality is amazing. The biggest issue with branded t-shirts is not so much the clothing but the ink used. It cracks and looks crap very fast.

Pm me if you want a 190 gram super cotton without branding, it's actually cheaper depending on where you buy to get an expensive locally made shirt and get a single colour printed on it. By expensive i mean 50 bucks plus say a one col back and front for like 80-100 bucks.

Way better than buying this bulk, low quality rubbish we get sold. It says deisel so that cheap ass shirt is sold at 200 bucks and it costs them 20 bucks. For 200 bucks wow i cannot believe the shocking quality shirts used.

Hackett and Thomas pink?
Nice shirts those, nothing woolworths or Edgar's will come close to.

Hackett opened up in Sandton city.

I can safely say none of the above posts will be worth checking out. They all crap.
Also noticed you haven't mentioned any sort of budget.

Spending over a R1000 on a shirt is out of most people's budgets so no need to act poncy here buddy.

Hackett and Thomas pink are quite pricey and also very good quality. Doubt you find an Edgars shirt in that league.

The problem with woolworths shirts is that eventually there are going to be a couple of people in the office with the same shirt. Okay in smaller offices the chances are slim. But where i work, it happens all the time that two/three guys are all wearing the same shirt on the same day.

The other problem with woolworths shirts is the way their size them. To use your neck size to determine the rest of the shirt size is ridiculous. Same could be said for a lot of places.

Try find a good tailor, you can get bespoke shirts for anything from R500 upwards depending on the fabric - maybe even cheaper then R500

Khaliques .................... tell them John Robbie sent you!

I am not a skinny guy. But I bought some Edgars shirts based on collar size and these things are so baggy it looks like Kramer's Puffy shirt. Not good.

I see Charles Tyrwhitt are having a sale - some of their shirts are down to 18 quid. If I don't come right locally I might order some direct from the UK. They always have offers anyway so could just work out easier that way..
