Only a wheels24 commentator could think the XC90 is the most expensive car of the year, or that any of the winning porsches were in the past.
Sadly people take it as an insult if they cannot afford the SA COTY as if it implies that they are somehow not South African. They suggest say something like a R0.4M Ford should win instead. As if that is somehow more relevant to the average South African (or even SA motorist). But then they are equally mystified when the majority of SA's people are angry because they cannot afford a 5th hand 1990s tazz.
They also seem to get confused between COTY and top sales of the year. Also people miss that it is for new models only and that they are not in fact comparing a bakkie and boxster as a suitable all rounder.
It is a pointless contest - and proves nothing. But I love it because people get so mad about it.
