Buy SA PS3 vs International?

I am considering getting the PS3, can someone let me know what the acrual difference is between buying one locally or from overseas, and if i bought one locally would it still work if i went to another country like canada?

A) movies, you must buy a ps3 that is PAL... thats our video system... so, Europe and Austrialia etc...

B) games.... you can get games every where and they will work(ps3 games though)

C) buying locally is better as warranties and stuff are valid here

If you're using an HD TV then any model from anywhere will work. From a TV system perspective it wouldn't matter with DVDs either because if you're buying a PS3 you would presumably have a decent TV, which would mean it is multisystem.

The only problem you will encounter is that the PS3 enforces region coding on DVDs and blu-ray. If you're planning to buy your blu-ray movies this is not an issue because the movies are overpriced in SA too, so you're better off buying both the PS3 and blu-ray movies from the US. There are also a fair number of blu-ray releases that are not region coded.

You won't have a warranty, but the PS3 seems to be very reliable and if you are going to be saving yourself a lot of money it is worth it.

PAL HD is 25fps, NTSC HD is 30fps. For SD any decent display in a PAL region will accept both standards, and if you've gone with an NTSC model you should have no trouble in NTSC countries like Canada.

Nope. As long as your screen is multisystem, the PS3 will be fine. Region coding on DVDs will be a pain tho'...

So basically yes NTSC is an issue for mere mortals with normal CRT tellies.

Thanks for clearing up my issue, i'm gonna get the LG 245WP to run my pc and soon to be ps3 from, so the pal ntsc thing wont be a issue.
