I have two mobile phone, as well as a mobile broadband contract with Vodacom.
On 30 July 2008, I inadvertently activated a MyMeg500 ad hoc data bundle on one of my “normal” phones, instead of the broadband device. BIG MISTAKE!
I contacted the call centre twice the following day to explain the problem and also asked them to cancel the bundle. I followed this up with a personal visit to their customer centre in Canal Walk and explained the problem to one of the consultants.
Well, despite all my efforts – including several emails (which are now going unanswered) I have simply been told that “it was activated as per my request” and that is the end of the story!
I do not deny that I initiated the activation, but it was a genuine mistake and it was allocated to the wrong device. Moreover, I have not used a single bit of the bundle.
Surely, as a matter of principle, one cannot be charged for something that one did not use?
Well, clearly not as far as Vodacom is concerned and, therefore, beware - mistakes are very costly!!
