Buying a 3D LED TV

Ascribing such particulars of my life experiences and accusing me of attacking members is laughable and I won't go lower. Quote the incorrect statements that are in fact correct. I don't understand how I can be so wrong if my opinion correlates with that of others on the forum, IRL, Wiki and internet review sites. Odd. Why must I drop when when I've replied to your post, given your misunderstandings better understandings, and asked for your submissions of internet review sites to show IPS is the best - all in spirit of good debate? If you are now not interested in debate, you drop it. We'll see what you decide.

One of the points in contention was the LG 3D resolution. Do you still stick to your claims?
The other point was the difference about the black levels. You stated its no major issue so now is the difference between 0.03 and 0.08 now that a big issue or not?
You claimed the wiki stated that PVA > IPS can you guide us to that factual information?

Don't know much about it, as I've illustrated. but from what I've read I agree with Roman, and it's explained on the internet review site if I'm not mistaken.

Quote where I said it was a big issue.

Did u know that the LG 47" cinema 3D LED comes with selectable modes, especially a "vivid" mode in 3D which addresses black, white, contrast and dim and any other issue u may have as well as day or night or room ambient conditions. It rocks. Its even more crystal clear in 3D mode than in 2D mode when doing 2D to 3D translation. Watch BBC News in 3D - Its awesome.

Forget it, like we saw when you "debated" with Dolby and in the now closed TV threads, debating with you is fruitless. Carry on acting the ex-spert. After this final post I will not entertain you further.

On the first point I know and it's clear you do not know much about it and you did not put any effort in to update your knowledge.

Here is the factual information on the LG 3D resolution technology again with added certification

LG’S CINEMA 3D TVS GET FULL HD 3D CERTIFICATION
http://www.flatpanelshd.com/news.php?subaction=showfull&id=1310384844
LG introduced their Cinema 3D TVs earlier this year. The Cinema 3D TVs utilize the much cheaper polarized 3D glasses, making some doubt that Cinema 3D could be characterized as a true Full HD 3D standard. The German institute VDE has now issued an official Full HD 3D certification for LG’s Cinema 3D technology.
The dispute over LG’s TV had centered on whether the company’s Cinemas 3D TVs truly qualified as Full HD, defined as a horizontal image containing 1080 lines of definition. LG explains that their Film Patterned Retarder (FPR) technology, used on the Cinema 3D TVs, creates the perception of 3D depth by delivering two 540 line images, one for each eye, that are then combined via the glasses to create a unified 1080p image. The ruling from the VDE delivers the clearest affirmation to date of the validity of LG’s FPR technology.

LG also recently updated their firmware to support a new type of 3D display driving: surely one of the enablers of the new Full HD 3D certification. Learn more about that new 3D driving method in this article.

FlatpanelsHD tested LG’s Cinema 3D LW6500 range earlier this year and found that the 3D glasses puts less strain on the eyes, that crosstalk is almost non-existent and that issues such as batteries, synchronization loss, brightness los and flicker are all eliminated. Read the full Cinema 3D LW6500 review.

On the second point of contention. Black levels
You do act like a stuck record on this point in every TV thread. So You are making it an issue to the level that that is punted as the main selection criteria for selecting a TV. So lets see what a reviewer say about the LG 3D.

LG CINEMA 3D LW6500
http://www.flatpanelshd.com/review.php?subaction=showfull&id=1301662476

Shadow detailing is fair but not great. The 2-3 darkest grey tones were not distinguishable to black. This means that viewers will lose some detailing in very dark movies and games but this is very common on LCD/LED models today.

Below I have examined the LG Cinema 3D LW6500 a completely dark room to see if it has clouding, backlight bleeding or floating black issues
LG LW6500 has some clouding and backlight bleeding around the edges of the panel but nothing to really worry about. Compared to other Edge LED based TVs LW6500 is actually doing pretty well.

On the third point you find it acceptable to only relate part of the wiki information that seems to suit you viewpoint.

The S-IPS panels are old technology. There are improved IPS panel versions with advanced features as opposed to the original S-IPS. See the following tables in the same wiki

LG IPS evolving technology
Hitachi IPS evolving technology
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TFT_LCD#cite_note-9

IPS has since been superseded by S-IPS (Super-IPS, Hitachi Ltd. in 1998), which has all the benefits of IPS technology with the addition of improved pixel refresh timing.

The LG use a HA-IPS panel.
Advanced High Performance IPS AH-IPS 2011 Improved colour accuracy, increased resolution and PPI, and greater light transmission for lower power consumption

The Panasonic use a IPS-A panel which far exceeds the S- PVA panels in performance.

IPS alpha next gen IPS-Pro 2010 High contrast ratio Technology transfer from Hitachi to Panasonic

PS Pro (IPS Alpha)
TV applications: Panasonic, Hitachi, Toshiba
Color Quality: Best (10bit)
Contrast (Max/in 60 viewing angle): Best (1000:1/1000:1)
Black Level: Best
Horizontal viewing angle Best (178/120)
Vertical viewing angle Best (179)
Switching speed Best (4ms)

So no! PVA > IPS that is a PP MyBB falacy.

Lol, you've just gone off in a complete tangent bringing irrelevant information to the table. Could not care less about LG 3D cinema improving bla bla. No point arguing with someone who cannot read posts for what they are in their linear order following the discussion without shifting goal posts, or with someone who denies scientifically obtained specs when shown to them by multiple forumites. You treat me no different, don't let the door hit you on your way out. Samsung and Sony TVs have darker blacks than LG, generally, deal with it.

I get the feeling PP does not want to hear these valid experience points. My friend have the same model and thus with first on hand experience I can only conclude its a great TV and I will get one at some time. I have experienced none of the issues PP use to turn people off from buying these modern LG LED TV's.

I mean this was the original topic and PP was adamant to argue the same old points already discussed in other threads instead of discussing the information the OP requested.
Hi,

I saw a Cinema 3D 47' LED TV at Hifi selling for R10999. Now before I spend that amount of money I would first like to find out if I can't get the same deal for a little cheaper somewhere else...
I've notice that you can get a 51' Plasma for around R8000+. Whats the difference between the two? Is it better to go LED over Plasma?

And I would also like to find out if anyone with a 3D TV ever had any bad experiences with it? Is it worth it?

I wonder if the OP ever got the answers he needed

Preposterous. You have to own TVs to judge them...

I have experienced none of the issues PP use to turn people off from buying these modern LG LED TV's.

I did that? Where? By saying that Samsung and Sony generally have better blacks than LG? Something which correlates with the facts presented to you?

I get the feeling you're living in cuckoo land.

Try to read the thread in a linear fashion without skipping to PP's posts.

Again, you fail to read posts properly. One of my previous posts clearly explained that I was questioning someone you're defending's statement: "IPS is the best type".

Everything before was on topic.

So, is IPS the best type?

This thread topic was about LG 3D TV technology not only about black levels at all. You still cannot grasp or even comprehend that small detail. This thread goes on the same off topic tangent you created with Dolby and the now other closed TV threads. Only thing is you cannot even grasp the reality.

A lot of BS.........
So, is IPS the best type?

The IPS-A used by Panasonic, Hitachi and Toshiba is better that the S-PVA and the S-IPS. The new 2011 LG AH-IPS technology is better than the S-IPS and the S-PVA with the S-PVA only better with the black levels by a fraction that is not a deal breaker at all.

Now if you want to debate that statement start another thread and stop taking ALL TV threads off topic with your obvious private agenda (whatever for) and outdated knowledge and experience.

I have no problem with that. Next time I refer to LG's IPS tech (note: a thread that developed into one about LG and Samsung in general), I will remember to specifically refer to it as LG's implementation of IPS technology in this TV.

I can't understand why you can't accept that the TV you mentioned in the height of black level debate has poor black levels, as shown to you by Roman. That's all I'm defending, as well as the general trend of non-LG implemented IPS panel TVs of the VA variety generally having superior black levels, as per scientific testing.

Now if you want to debate that statement start another thread and stop taking ALL TV threads off topic with your obvious private agenda (whatever for) and outdated knowledge and experience.

But my friend owns a LG 3D Cinema TV...

LOL at obvious private agenda. You really are living in cuckoo land if you think that.

This thread topic was about LG 3D TV technology

Yet you wouldn't be able to quote the bits that stipulate this as the only line of discussion allowed, because there weren't any. One can only assume you have difficulty interpreting the OP as being open-ended.

not only about black levels at all. You still cannot grasp or even comprehend that small detail. This thread goes on the same off topic tangent you created with Dolby and the now other closed TV threads. Only thing is you cannot even grasp the reality.

So you think a comment like IPS is the best is perfectly acceptable with this stipulated topic line, and you defend it? And you cannot understand the resulting banter? Par for the course. Welcome to the internet.

Take the last post.

PP can I ask a stupid question (bit lazy to google)

LCD VS LED LCD

It's only the back lighting the differs. Then what is the same between them is the panel ? (be descriptive, I want to know)

Thanks :)

Yes the IPS-A is the best. Check the same wiki table you desecrated and used in this thread to "prove" your argument.

Self-lit vs back-lit isn't the only difference, but it could be the most important in achieving the most natural picture. I'm not tclued up on the inner workings, but there's also the differences in plasma and LCD pixels, their response times, etc. Best to Wikipedia it (I find it's very lazy-friendly :p) so you can understand the different techs better.

Cool, I'll dig up some dirt later on about this.

The table summarises the fact that LG LCDs generally have poorer black levels than Samsung and Sony LCDs. That's what was pertinent at the time of discussion. Like I said, forums work in linear order.

Let's not forget this picture, keeping in line with the stipulated topic and all:

LG-47LW5600-contrast.jpg

Because generally contrast is the main determiner of picture quality, the OP may want to consider the large difference in the above pic.

Your question was if IPS panels are the best. I gave you that information.

Your continuation of trolling of this thread is now reported.
