So... Buying a new mattress.(Queen)

What are the pitfalls. How hard a discount can be negotiated... Already had there be a price and immediately the salesman is out with their calculator saying 15% off that... Which makes me think, how low does it go.

Today:
- dial a bed, seemed good, more honest -- Simmons or Sealy...
- Bed King - actually liked their gimmicky "bed science" thingy. Good prices, and helpful, but worried it's just cheap stuff sold at not so cheap (SA made, SA quality...)
- Tafelberg... Dirty, unhelpful, no prices... Had to go ask manager what discount... Aish man, why have staff... Put me in a bad mood for the rest of the day!

Don't know for your region, but I would probably find a store to test one out and then I will go online and check what is the best option.

The last time I tried this I realised that the buggers all have different models so comparing was borderline impossible. Have still not bought a bed.

My cousin has a chain of mattress stores in Cape Town. PM me if you have any trouble.

That doesn't sound like the Tafelberg Furnishers I know. Go to their Bellville branch if you can, or Somerset West.

+1 for sloom, dual zoned levels of comfort, binned my 'fancy' simmons, we're both happy, the mattress difference not noticeable when having a shag
also it's dead cheap

Cloud Nine.

Can’t go wrong.

Will never ever touch anything with a pocket coil or some such bullshit ever again.

Have four Cloud Nines in the house now and couldn’t be happier.

I want this so badly.

I currently have a decent mattress, I'm 150KG, so it's actually surprisingly good given I'm more than their typical use case.

Dont make any snap decisions.
Sleep on it then decide.

Theres a another thread on here that discusses mattresses . I think the general view was either cloud9 or sloom.

But bottom line is don't cheap out on this purchase it is essentially investing in your own health.

Spend at least R10000 at a place that can do repairs under warranty if needed.

Second Cloud Nine! I have a Cloud Nine Epic-Comfort it was just under R10000. It needs to be replaced after 7 years or so. It broke once, ima hornyhippolion but the place I bought it from was awesome collected and repaired and said while it's under warranty they will repair it every time, but they did a proper job it lasted until after the warranty expired.

It was/is the best bed I've slept on next to it I prefer the solid floor.

Can't recommend anything in CT but we bought one in 2010 or thereabouts. It was near to the top of the range that time. Island dream - slumberpedic. Still going strong.

I wouldn't buy online tbh. This is going to be with you for at least 7 years, if not more.

Looking at cloud nine, but they have different models. Which one did you buy?

I Was looking at the 50th anniversary blue edition, but some say it has issues denting in the middle before even 1 year of use.

Maybe he is giving you his ultimate best price. I don't know how much market they put on their products.

The reason he would be doing that is he don't want to you to go buy somewhere else because he instead only gave 5 to 10% and the other shop lowballed from the start.

I see this business just as tough as selling new motorcycles and spectacles. On motorcycles, the markup is very low. There isn't really much room for negotiation. Buyers will think you are insulting them giving them only 2% but that is the reality. Going over 2% in the motorcycle industry is just not worth it.

Some of the beds are manufactured locally so the markup could potentially be in the region of 35 - 50%, so you could potentially push for 20%, but profit of 5% doesn't sound worth it, but I just don't know the industry.
