Buying a new TV Help needed!

Howzit guys!

I need help!

I'm in need of a new TV and honestly I'm a bit lost. No idea what exactly to look for.
Was thinking something decent, UHD, Smart, 55"+ and thinking spending around +-R20k should be ok.

Noticed a SAMSUNG 55" Smart Curved UHD LED TV (UA55JU6600) for R17k
What do you think?

Would appreciate any opinions and help on the matter.

Thanks!

How far do you sit from your tv? Personally, I would prioritise a larger screen over UHD, 3D, smart or curved...as others have pointed out, the content for 4k isn't going to be widely-available for the next few years. Smart you'll probably have to take anyway since large, dumb panels seem to have gone out of fashion.

Given the choice again, I would have taken something like this - http://www.dionwired.co.za/televisions/samsung-60-led-smart-tv.html over my Samsung 55H6400.

huh? Streaming works just fine on the smart TVs. Well Netflix/Amazon prime video/Youtube anyway.

"Smart" to me means more than that, it means web browsing and playing media off a network as well... I'm biased but I have an intense hatred of the crappy hardware bundled in these TV's that takes a poo when presented with a 15GB 1080p "linux distro". Never mind the clunky/slow UI and just plain crappy firmware these "smart" TV's come with, it drives me mad.

You just need to get a linux distro that isn't so badly encoded that the hardware acceleration can't kick in. Even the old non-smart TVs can deal with 20GB 1080p 264s. And if the HW accel doesn't kick in on a distro that size then you'll need a seriously beefy HTPC anyway.

Personally I don't need my TV to do webbrowsing or playing media off a network. Got a laptop for the one and stream for the other. For those usage cases a HTPC is definitely a better bet though if you want to do those.

I'd just shop around, do some research, watch some video reviews on Youtube and then make up your mind.

It's a lot of money to drop on a set so it's always better to know you've done research.

Honestly you cannot really go terribly wrong in that price range. I think some UHD sets are already affordable enough to be worth looking at. Curved displays imo don't add much or any value unless you're sitting right up close to it.

Make a short list of potential canidates and then post here so people can fight about UHD :D

Same situation as you.
Need to upgrade my Tv
I have narrowed it down to 3 TV

Samsung UJ7500

ChEAPER OPTION ON THE ABOVE (LESS FEATURES I GUESS)
SAMSUNG UJ6600

another option - LG

Im leaning towards the LG because of 3D (Unlike the rest of the world i enjoy my 3D)

Will do,

Think I'm going to leave it to mid Jan before I buy as I'm going on Holiday the 11th anyway.

Have mentioned it before here I think, but someone highly recommended I go non Curve and get one of these:

Help Needed For a TV choice

Hi, I am also in the market for a new TV, I prefer Samsung and LG due to quality and the awesome magic remotes.

I will use the TV for movies and normal DSTV, I sit about 4 m away. So obviously I would like to go for a 65" however the cheapest is around 22k and I only want to spend a max of 15k, I see Makro is doing a special on a 65 Hi-sense I can also get a JVC 65 for around the same price but I don't know anyone with a JVC, I am worried about the quality and smart interface as well as the processor. Has anyone had experience with Hi-sense, also if I settle for a 55 to fit the budget what would you recommend I don't care about 3d and I also think UHD is not relevant yet here in SA but it might be nice?

Thanks

Hi guys.

After all the info, checking reviews etc I ended up buying the Samsung 55JU7500 curved.

Had the opportunity to look at most ones I considered and thx to the cpu, refresh and clear motion rate this is definitely one beautiful TV and I'm very happy.

Also glad I went for 55 and not 65. It just fits better.

Thx everyone
