Buying a used picanto

Hi all,

So the GF is buying a used picanto, the one we are interested in is from imperial select and is R80k, 2010 model with aircon and power steering

It looks clean and great condition, has 38000km onmthe clock

So do you think this is a good deal?

Any tips to make sure we don't buy a dud?

I have the reg number, vin etc, anyway to get a history of the car? Call a Kia dealership?

Also I see the new picanto is out, I thought it was only coming 2012, but stock arrives Monday, super awesome but don't want to extend the budget.
 
ouch, the only thing possibly worse than a kia picanto is a used kia picanto
obviously - im assuming the decision is based on budget reasons - as opposed to "thats the car id like to drive"
in which case it sounds like a fair deal
as for the buying duds thing - google for "2nd hand car buying tips" they give various bits of advice such as:
putting it into fifth gear and letting the clutch out (intentionally stalling) and feeling how it does so to assess the condition of the gear box/clutch and then turning a full 360 circle in reverse/foward to test something else - various things i dont know off hand

On the matter of the picanto I think it is great little car, I know for the same budget I could get something bigger etc but will have plenty more kms on and not such a recent year model. GF likes it

Wise choice. The last thing you want is a more expensive car with higher mileage that starts to give hassles.
The plus side with the Kia is that the spares and services will be cheap/affordable.

If you had asked me if I would buy a Kia 5 years ago, I'd have told you "over my dead body".
Although the Cerato has a few downsides it definitely changed my view of Hyundai and Kia.
They've come a long way over the last 3 years.

nice little car, light on fuel ,bought 2hand 2008 picanto ,year ago ,no problem with car. Just make sure theres an ownersmanual, Im still looking for one.
 
I've only ever driven the Picanto as a rent, it's a great little car for its price.

I drive the new i10, flip, that is a nice car :D at @100k

You seen the new picanto, also out now at R100k for entry model, flippin awesome!

I10 is also wicked little car
 
so i did a report on transunion, what a load of crap, it returns barely any info, almost everything says not recorded, report took like 2 minutes to come through, surely they would have to go look for the info

what farking crap :mad:

This is not a bad thing. The only things you need to be concerned about on a TransUnion report are whether the engine and VIN numbers match, whether it's been reported stolen & whether there's an existing finance agreement on record.

Still very misleading based on the sample

But yeah at least I know the engine number etc matches, the finance part said not recorded and the stolen part says something about waiting 48 hours so I hope an update comes through
