i have applied for the ADSL/PVR bundle, but since its only 1GB cap, how can i go about buying additional Gigs ?

Don't buy any aditional cap from MWEB! It will cost you an arm and a leg...

Rather get yourself a prepaid account from WebAfrica/Axxess.

The only problem is that the supplied Billion 7401vgp router is apparently locked to only work on MWEB's network so unless you can get it unlocked I'm afraid you are stuck with buying your top-up bandwidth from MWEB at inflated prices. It would be interesting to hear if anyone has successfully unlocked this router.

god i hope so :D

but tell me, what about this "Free local usage" ? is that still applicable on Mweb? what happens once i used up my 1GB? will it automatically stop, or will it continue but bill me at insane rates (ala-Vodacom 3G) ?

The default on mweb is billing at 20c/MB after you reached your cap, you can however change that to buy booster bandwidth which will cost you R99/gig

whats the average going rate for a GIG of bandwidth ? Who is the cheapest?

R70/GB is the going rate.

Webafrica gives you that rate. Axxess also gives about the same rate, just a bit cheaper, depending if you take a monthly/prepaid/now/etc account. Sainet also has good prices, if you want more than just 1GB and are prepared to pay the R99 startup fee. Then there is Cybersmart for the 3GB+ Accounts.

but can i buy GIGS from other providers to use with Mweb ?

When you buy gigs from other providers you don't 'use (them) with MWeb"

- You have an ADSL line from Telkom
- You have an MWeb ISP account with 1Gb per month which you get through your Telkom ADSL line.
- You can buy prepaid ADSL data from any other ISP and use it on your Telkom ADSL line by changing the username and password on your router.

As I have said before the only problem is that if you subscribe to the MWEB combined ADSL/PVR package & accept the "free" router then that router is locked to their network.

Ahh, I forgot it's MWeb, "Lets screw the customer as often as we can".

Surely buying another ADSL modem and using the prepaid data on the other modem would work? R300-400 for the modem though.

Can I cancel a contract with Mweb before the 1-year has ended. I made the pitfall of all mistakes sigining that contract, but anyway I was desperate and after seeing the packages on cybersmart and webafrica : Change is Good
