Buying/Downloading Games

Hi Guys and Good Evening

My lad wants an Xbox One, and i want to know a few things. He has a PS3 80GB and never played online games or downloaded any from the PSN store.

However, im getting him a 500GB model. He is only 6 years old, turning 7 end June so its a present for him.

Could you guys be so nice to explain, what i need to get to download games and what does it. Also is the game permanently yours after download, or is it like a rental option.

Games you buy online are permanently yours. Offline or online.

Games are large : 30gb to 80gb

Games you get via the Xbox Live for free are yours as long as your subscription is active.

If you are in JHB and need a game but can't download, let me know and if I have it you can copy it from me :) just buy, it and you can get a copy from elsewhere.

Ta, thanks for the kind gesture but im in Cape Town. :) wow those games are big. Thats literally 5 games i can download on this 500GB hard drive *sigh* lol
 
You don't need a subscription to buy, only if you want to play online and want the free games every month. Subscription have recently increased to about R950 for 12 months. You get 1,3,6,12 month subs.

So one could buy a game as if one would buy a game in a store? So buy and download it? If yes, is it cheaper?
 
Yes, buy, download and play. You can delete the game from your drive and re download whenever you want to again. Not really cheaper than to buy physical, sometimes more expensive, but you get good digital deals whenever there's sales and price drops.

The Xbox One allows you to connect an external hard drive for additional storage via the usb, in case you were worried about running out of storage space.
 
I find that some of the free, or it was with Gold, cheap games you can get off the store are more suitable, to my 6 year old nephew, granted he loves FIFA (most expensive game he plays)... we have Xbox Gold Live though. However most of the games are more suitable for "Adults"... and the smaller kids games, such as peggle are relatively small...

However the Kinect could be fun too but it's a lot more work for the kids and could get old fast...

There was a special for R5500 for the 1TB model with a game this past weekend, it may still be around...

XBL 12 months is $44 ~ R650 from cdkeys. PSN+ is $52. Also you get 4 free games on XBL - 2 for 360 (which is backwards compatible) and 2 for X1.

I decided not to renew my PSN+ sub until there's an exclusive that I really want to play online. The quality of the free games was below that of the X1, and the network stability wasn't as good...

oh thanks, thats great to know. Now to sell my 80GB PS3. No need to have that as well.
 
Anyone else have this weird issue where we just can't download games on my network. We tried everything, manually opening the ports after logging a call with Microsoft. In the end we had to take it to friends house, that had a 10mbps line. I'm currently on an 8mbps line, the download will start and then it just fails.
