Hi Everyone,

So been in the market for my first car a while now and found a 2011/2012 Suzuki Swift 1.4 GLS. It's in very nice condition, only has just under 43000km with the last service done at 39000km in March 2018. The car still drives very well. Only problem i think is 3 of the tyres are the original tyres it came out with, which is already 7 years old and seeing some cracks between the threads. The price is R119 995. Would it be a good car to go for as i drive 70km a day and is maintenance expensive on them?

Thanks for the help.

It's a good first time purchase, ask the dealership to change the tires before agreeing to purchase

Great runabout. Nice colour as well.

One of the lowest running vehicle in it's segment.

I think that's an awesome first car if you can afford it. Mine was a five year old Hyundai Atos with 90 000km for R50 000. That little car served me well :)

If you're getting the car from an independent dealership, at least read up one of those stories on "how to spot mechanical problems".

Modern cars seem to mostly either work or they don't, there's not much middle-ground. Take it for a test drive and pay attention to how smoothly you can change gears, how evenly you can brake, how responsive the steering is, how evenly the car accelerates, how smoothly the engine idles, and look out for any oil leaks or weird residues on the engine ... that'll cover you against a lot of the nasties.

Thanks Foxhound5366, appreciate the advice.

Took it for a drive on Friday, very smooth driving, just something to get use to, been driving my dads Audi 2.0 tdi the last 2 months when someone hit me from behind in my jetta, so a massive difference in power and comfort.

The Suzuki Swift is a good fun to drive little car with good dynamics handling. The Swift's strongest suits is that it grips well in corners and suffers from little body lean. The down side is the small boot and the rear legroom is quite cramped. As for the interior there are some hard plastics. Fuel consumption average is 6.7L /100km real world. Manufacturer claims 5.5L /100km. Dealership service maintenance costs estimates R 1500.

Thanks MIA7171 really appreciate that info

Dude, give yourself room to grow. It took me four cars between my Atos and finally getting a BMW ... and there are plenty other cars I still want to drive. As a young guy, a Swift is an awesome choice.

Definitely love the swift, obviously being a bit of a petrolhead, rather wanting the sport is obvious, but have to be reasonable.

I was looking at the Kia Picanto or i10, but by chance was looking around this week and saw the swift, which is definitely 1st option between those 3.

In your opening post you say:"

Regardless of the above, buy the Swift, ask for new tyres and tell the dealer that you aren't paying their ridiculous on-the-road fees.

Good luck with the purchase.

Do you have a choice to pay or not pay on road fees ?

Do you have a choice to pay or not pay on road fees ?
Haven't spoken to them yet much, but the sales man is very polite and only started his job 2 weeks ago at this place, so hopefully i can use that to my advantage and get a better deal

Yes you do, but salesman will force you to pay it anyways, as there job it to make money.

Swift is a good car, I am sure will have plenty of happy miles in it.

Not sure if 70km a day includes loads of traffic, you might want to consider automatic if sitting in traffic all day.
