Hello!

I've been buying things from digital planet after seeing there ads on news24.com.

I just want to let you guys know, that when one buys computer hardware, you cannot wait to get it and use it and test it. Digital planet have lived up and exceed my expectation.

They haven't charged me a cent for delivery all the way from jhb to cape town. there staff are really friendly and effective.

The whole point i'm trying to make is that there are lots of negative people on these forums. But there are good service providers out there, and i've experienced them first hand. And there are very good role models for other providers and for me personally.

Simple things make such a difference. When people promptly reply to emails and can give you the information you require, its really such a pleasure doing business with these people. And then i spread the word and more people use their services.

Mr BEEP at openweb and web africa generally are just as good!

Yeah

The only potential prob I've had is their stock - often things advertised are not in stock, so always check. Email is the best, as their lines are permanently busy. I made the mistake of walking in off the street (they don't run this kind of shop) and had to wait a while, but as you said, their staff are very friendly. Many things are well priced, some not, but i was happy overall with them and would use them again if required.

Oh look :

It's a 5.1 surround sound set of headphones.
I tried to buy this from them 9 months ago.
Took them 4 months to tell me that : They did not have the stock, could not get the stock, could not even verify the price, nor the details of the product at all.

AND IT'S STILL ON THEIR PRODUCT LIST.

Yep, DP have good prices, but absolutely no way to verify stock from their suppliers, it seems. So I gave up on them.

In my books you are extremely lucky to say that they are good. In my case they certainly rate as the worst experience that anyone could ever suffer in online retailing. My last two orders with them got cancelled thanx to the famous "our supplier cannot supply". Some of those items were subsequently sourced and supplied by other companies such as exactmall within three days.

My experience- Avoid them like the plaque!

Digital Planet's prices are very good but their final delivery dates are absolutely shocking. Other shops start delivering an order when digital planet hasn't even ordered stock for an order.

I have bought a memory stick from them when they had the cheapest price for the stock item and when they contacted me by e-mail 3 months later saying the order is ready to be collected I just ignored them because I could get one for so much cheaper as prices came down a lot for memory sticks.

I cannot empasize enough how long it takes for them to process, order and have the goods ready. I have ordered a few times before from them with their best being me having to wait 1 month.

The biggest issue with an online shop is their after sales service. When you buy an item online you have the disadvantage of not being able to see and feel the item/s you are purchasing.

If, for whatever reason, you want to return the product you should be allowed to do so (piracy not withstanding). I'm not implying a return of money; a credit note would be fine.

DigitalPlanet fall far short of this type of expectancy. You have to CC the entire company before you start getting the results you would expect to get from other reputable online stores (kalahari, take2, pcmall, etc).

I only wonder what would happen if towards the end of the warranty your product started acting up?!

Don’t buy at DP, they’re not worth the after sales aggravation!!!

So maybe we should give out a list of good stores(and their site) to buy from and a list of not recommended stores and the reason why. Then sticky the thread?

Nah, sorry. I got burned with them before... took them a month to get an order out, considering that they actually had the stock a week after I placed the order, but simply forgot to notify me.

I will not buy from digital planet unless I'm desperate, and even then I'll think twice.
