i am thinking about buying WoW but i don't know anything about it beside the fact that it's awesome,i need advice on what it needs and such:
How much cap does it take per hour?:
can it be played SA local such as when i'm capped?:
what specs does it need?:
how much is there to do online in the game/how much fun is it?:
how long will WoW keep u busy?:
ect:

i need to hear from pro players or players who regur play the game.:D

How much cap does it take per hour?: For the 1st few months when ur lvling it will take about 5-10mb an hour.

can it be played SA local such as when i'm capped?: No you need international
bandwidth seeing as it is hosted in either Europe or the USA

what specs does it need?: You can see the full specs on their website

how much is there to do online in the game/how much fun is it?: There is LOADS to do and it is very fun, lol. You can do PvP or 5man instances or quest alone there is loads of instansces to do. its even more fun if you have buddy's who play with you

how long will WoW keep u busy?: Untill the end of times...

I'll recomend a guild like Pitbull have made (search the WoW forums) it is an all SA guild and lots of high lvl chars who rerolled and i think they will help you out, Dunno :)

thanks for the help,i will be geting a uncapped account soon so hope WoW will be worh it.EDIT:is there anything i can do offline while i wait for my uncapped account?

Unfortunately not, this game and all of its functions are done online.

you can do loads of things offline :p nothing related to WoW though sorry :)

You can go to www.wowhead.com or www.wowwiki.com. And read up on the different classes and their pro's and cons. This way you can make an educated disicion as to what you what to play :)

Also, just to add on what the others said.

1. WoW can be played on anything with any connection, you don't need uncapped even though you might want it later on in game to raid.
2. I'll be honest, you pay to play the game and it is hosted int. You can play local on Emu servers. But they are very buggy and hardly any players on there. (To experience the game to the fullest, only play official) Emu servers will get you frustrated and you will end up hating the game.

To sum it up:

Go out today and get a copy of the Normal WoW - R 170 I think. You get 30 days free game time. Install, create an account and play on your R 2000 PC with Dial-up. Wow runs on any PC ;) Obviously not a 386 but any current standard PC :)

There will be no problems :)

Negativ... Normal WoW is R130 at most places now.

The advice is solid until they remember about patches. The thing about WoW is that you are playing online where everyone has to be playing on the same version and Blizzard update the game regularly, so patches come out regularly (we're talking every few months, expansions every few years).

The WoW install is now 12 gigs (4 for the original, 4 for The Burning Crusade and another 4 for the latest expansion Wrath of the Lich King). I might be wrong, since you get 2 entire continents per expansion. This means you might get away with relatively smaller downloads if you install only the original game. Expect a minimum of 1gig of patches to get your version 1 to version 3.0.8 (the current release version). The nice thing is that if you simply copy someone's existing game folder, it will work. I recommend you try find a friend's copy or ask someone on the forum who lives close. You can then get a 10 day free trial just to see what it's like. If you like it, get a CD key.

I must stress that the game is reliant on latency. So even if you have a 4 meg uncapped line, it won't matter if your ping time is huge (in layman's terms, that is the length of time for one internet packet to travel through the undersea cables to hit Europe or USA). It might be worth investing in a 1gig UNSHAPED account for playing WoW, then use your uncapped shaped account for downloading patches. If you are getting uncapped, you might already be abusing the bandwidth to get your version of wow up to date. (See what I said above).

The last thing to take into account is that there are two "brands" of Wow... US or Europe. You can not play on the European servers with a US copy. I suggest you make sure you get a Europe copy as the UK peeps are in our timeline and will raid at normal hours. If you get a US version, you might find yourself raiding between 1am and 5am during the week.

That said, WoW is a great game because it is accessible to newbies, casual and hardcore players. It teaches you have to play it in-game, whereas other MMO's have a steep learning curve. There are 3 games packed into one: levelling (getting your toon from level 1 to 80), raiding (where you and your guild will try to complete 25 to 40 man instances to kill HUGE monsters for items) and then PvP (where you kill players of the opposite faction to earn points which can be spent on phat loot once again).

If you are studying or you have a girlfriend, I suggest you schedule your time to play WoW as the average CASUAL player dedicates about 11 hours a week to playing. 1 hour a night and 6 on weekends. 11 million people is a fairly impressive number IMHO, so just be responsible about it cause you're going to be addicted.

O yes you can I played like that for my 1st year or so

you just have to edit the MPQ ever patch day patch the us whit EU patch and then reEdit the MPQ file major pain but doable

but much easyer if you wanna play EU get EU copy and so on and what not

thx for the advice,i think i will stick to buying more cap when it runs out so the un-capped acount can wait

If I go and buy wow and install it, I wouldn't be able to play until I have all the patches installed?? If so, must I buy both the other expansions aswell?

No, you do not need to, but you will be restricted to the original content areas, which is fine for levelling your toon, but after that you will soon be wanting more..... :)

ps, you will need those patches though, for the original content, so it will still be a hefty download.

I am considering buying wow as soon as I get my new desktop computer, just a few questions

1. which isp would you recommend ( currently im using telkom 2 gig pakage, and then when that runs out I just buy an axxess prepaid voucher)

2. Would I need a top of the range graphics card to handle the game ?

3. How much is it per month ? and where can I get vouches from.

Axxess offers a real nice semi-shaped account package. It's basically unshaped after 7pm. Great success!
2. Would I need a top of the range graphics card to handle the game ?
Yes and no. No in the sense that you can play it with onboard graphics just about all the time. Yes in the sense that once you get to 25man raids where there's all kinds of craziness happening, it does chow quite a bit of resources. But don't go spending $$$ on a card unless you're picking up issues. It'll be overkill for 99.8% of the time anyway.
3. How much is it per month ? and where can I get vouches from.
You can buy gamer cards from AcidRazor, as his prices are hands down the cheapest.

Alternatively you can subscribe via credit card @ R160 a month. (I use this option since I can pretend it doesn't hurt if I don't see it being deducted :p

* KamikazeHamster gave a good rundown of the game's issues & what to watch for.

* You can copy a friend's entire wow folder and put it on your pc and it'll run fine. Even if you are only registered for the original.

* Wowhead is a GREAT source for info on pretty much _EVERYTHING_ in WoW. Use it and use it well!

* The game is different for just about all of us on here, since most of us play different classes/factions. What this means is:

- You get Alliance & Horde. Each side has their own cities and races. Choose carefully.
- The races for alliance include: Human, night elf, draenai (spacecow), gnomes and dwarves.
- The races for horde include: trolls, orcs, tauren (moocows), undead and gay elves.
- Each race has different features that are better/worse for certain classes and professions.

* Further more, you get different classes i.e.: Hunter (with pets), Rogue (Ninjaaaa), druid (shapeshifter), warrior (domkrag), paladin (ugh.), mage (QQ), warlock (noobs choose this one) aaaand shamans. (Death knights don't count, so I won't list them.)

- Each class has different 'trees' or talent lists that allow you to be a little different in your roll. I.e. a druid can be a tank (big bear), a dps (damage per second) cat or a healer. Some classes can only dps but choose in what way they want to do it. for example a hunter can put all the leetness into his pet, or rather himself or whatnot. Different trees are better/worse for leveling and some are more focussed on player vs. player interaction. (ask WoWhead)

* Professions: (you can choose any 2)

You can be anything! a Blacksmith, a jewelcrafter, a guy who makes your clothes/weapons better/stronger/more shiny, another guy who writes you nice letters to be more kief (I think they call them inscriptors), a leatherworker, an alchemist, a tailor or an engineer.

Each profession allows you to make different stuff that you can either sell or use for yourself. (Some stuff ONLY you can use and make other people jealous)

There are also gathering professions (material collectors) who tend to make ALOT of money by selling raw materials on the auction to people with crafting professions. i.e. mining, flower picking or skinning animals for their fur. Obviously as a warrior you won't take up tailoring, you'll rather be a blacksmith. A hunter/druid might enjoy leatherworking - since they can wear what they make. They'll also take up skinning to supply themselves with materials (mats).

* Secondary Professions:

These include fishing, cooking and first aid. It's important to get all of these as high as possible to help your character through it's quests and so on...

More help next time...

In terms of patches you should really get all the upgrade packs installed from day one. My suggestion is that you find a friend in your area that has a full (Classic, Burning Crusade, Wrath) install and take your hard drive over to his house and make a copy.

This will save you lots of pain and suffering as it will be patched up to the latest version.
I would advise activating Classic and Burning Crusade at first as you really don't need Wrath uptil you get to level 55 at the earliest (that is when you can create a death knight). However, if you don't have Burning Crusade installed you can't create a Blood Elf or a Dranei and you can't access those starting areas, in other words you will be limited.

You can buy your CD Keys online (I bought mine from offgamers) but it is useful to have the physical media around if you need it.

If you are lokoking for a server I am on Draenor and if you roll horde my toon is Istmus (look me up)

thx for the advice yet again, another Question:what happens to my player while i fight and sud my cap runs out?
