I'm not going to stay on the ADSL bus and get shafted even more when 1st Nov comes around. It's bad enough that we pay the equivalent of a Miner's salary to be permanently connected. But this is the last straw that breaks the back of my journey with ADSL. It's back to 56k dialup for me.

Sure, I can't download stuff anymore. And sure, I can't skype my buddies, surf the net without waiting and connect into work while I'm at home. But you know what? I'd rather have no service at all than be screwed even more by a monopoly that robs it's own user base and goes against all international trends, i.e. degrading their offerings and charging more.

So, it was fun while it lasted, and now I'm gonna start thinking of what to do with the extra bucks ;)

**** man, i'm in the same boat!!

darn, now i'm going to have to get a girlfriend!!!! :(

erm.. why dont u get a 3gig IS accounts.. cheaper than the old 3gig accounts.

You tell me, you have only had adsl for the last 3months with the 30gig accounts?

You all knew the accounts would end November?

Agreed Clipse but I can understand lukev's standpoint too. Luke is upset like most of us that instead of out services getting cheaper and better we are getting worse service as time goes on. Sure he can stay on ADSL and move to an IS package but there is bound to be some drawback be it in the form of pings to game servers etc. Why in Heaven's name must the services change????

Lukev, dialup is going to frustrate the crap out of you mate but good luck with whatever you choose to do. I do agree that Telkom is really raping South Africa. I hate that word but it is true. Telkom is raping South Africa! And the police (DoC) is just sitting there looking the other way...

A solution would be to go for the baseless prepay system offered here. You buy a gig prepaid on ADSL 192 , that will be better than dialup and cheap too, You may top up if needed and if you do not use it carries over. Just a thought as i think in three to six months and we all should sing a better tune (still years behind) but better than november

When you cancel, be sure to let Telkom now of the reasons for it!

The problem is with consumers in this country is they just accept it. the bad services, high prices and no money being disributed by lotto or too little.. and so the list goes on.....
but lukev has the right idea if you don't like the service and not happy with it cancel it, don't use it, don't got to that shop that gives you bad service, don't buy lotto ticket. don't complain about the govenment unless you voted.

But then I guess with something as critical as Telecoms for business who has a choice. :/

lukev - i trust we will see you on dwc soon then :)

its a mess.. but the 30 gb accounts were a loophole. and thats the sad truth. we all thought things were getting better, but it was just a smokescreen.

i understand his comments but 10 gigs is 349 i mean thats isnt exactly banking breaking

just no more edonkey for me

Hah!

R349 is what I was paying for 30Gb. Now I get 5GB for the same amount - is that a bargain? NOT!!

I have to decide today whether it is worth trying to stay in business. Let's face it, just when you think you've got things sorted and now perhaps you can earn a little bit of money somebody (in this case Telkom) rips your feet out from under you. I don't know whether I want to continue to struggle like this. All I want to do is earn an honest living and maybe create a few jobs along the way. I didn't think it was too much to ask but obviously, in South Africa it is.

Nice loophole though, enjoyed it while me could. Telkom will now steal the unused bandwidth as the ISP's cannot redistribute it from 1 November. That was the actual loophole exploited. This soured Telkom as they want all the profits for themselves

Killa it is not only the over bloated price we pay it is also the data volume limits Telkom place on people. They protect their own profits this way. So for small bussines Telkom ADSL is out as the expense for the data volume is the real killer here as well as the throttling of the data type.

I just think it's crazy that a pricing change like this can happen, and ICASA and the DOC do what? NOTHING!

What do we have a regulator for if it's not to regulate telecom companies and the prices they force upon us!?!

I'm in the same boat on this side. I'm going to downgrade my 1mbit line at the end of November down to the slowest form of ADSL there is and get that prepaid account someone mentioned in this thread.

I am used to downloading at 105kb/s now and downloading between 3 and 8 gb per day...so it will be a moerse step back. But it's fine. I'll just ride this one out until something better comes a long again and then upgrade again. As long as I can get my email, surf the net and download TV episodes from overseas, I'll be happy. But paying R680 per month for the 1mbit which won't be used like it's supposed to, it's money down the toilet.

The world leaps ahead while SA takes yet another step backwards. Telkom wanted the loophole there - otherwise they would have closed it immediately.

Take away the bandwidth extortion and you're still getting shafted on the line. Telkom always wins as long as you keep the line.

You meant to say "their line?"
