Bye bye Iburst!

True but i bet 3G will come out with cheaper and faster packages sooner then iburst will, and tbh Iburst's network also seems to be very congested, i dont get the same speeds i did when i first joined up with iburst aswell as the latency is alot higher then it was 2 years ago.

Latency is actually less than my 3G, but I suppose this is highly variable for people. I went onto the telkom 3G trial and it was absolutely fabulous. It was priced R19 than iburst at the time (but since then, iburst doubled the caps) and I had steam going at about 300 to 400KB/s. But then it came out of "trail" and the speeds started to suffer, but more importantly the latency became inconsistent.

Unfortunately iburst and neotel suffer the same and it produces unhappy clients. That "2Mbps upgrade" needs to come to improve the service. Why people complain about these two (iburst + neotel), and not the horrid vodacom 3G (after hours drop fest) is beyond me.

maybe they do i just cba to go read the 3g forums :), i suppose i have not really tested 3g out on gaming but i do know a few peeps that play online games with a 3g connection and they are happy with it but like you said its Highly Variable

Fact is Iburst is no longer a tenth as attractive as it was 2-4 years ago. Simply too expensive, too slow and too outdated to compete with ADSL today. And I can not see them coming up with something competitive in the foreseeable future. Initially they were a better option, especially in terms of startup costs and hassle free, but today with ADSL working out cheaper even the setup costs can be recovered very quickly.

So to those still on Iburst, look into ADSL offerings, I can almost guarantee you will find a better offer, if your is ADSL ready of course which it should be unless you live in the boons. To those looking at broadband, find out if your areas is ADSl ready and go for it, you won't be sorry.

Cant Agree more

I do not live in the boons but live in a fairly new residential developement. Telkom refuses to install ADSL in new developements. Ask a few people living in new upmarket apartments and you will find many that cannot get ADSL because of Telkom.

Do not assume that if your exchange is not ADSL capable that you must live in the bush.

When my contract runs out, I-Burst will be a banned curse word in my house, never to be seen or mentioned again.... ADSL has won me over and I am counting down the I-Burst prison days.

Hehe, ok, I didn't mean all non ADSL exchanges are in the bush. And yes, if you are in a complex, some don't have DSL either. Maybe get the residents to all petition Telkom?
