~Bye Bye~ "IS"

for once i get to laugh at the telkom clients, problems all over pe for u.s ip's, IS (openwbe) working like a charm... :)

Ok only saw these responses now and of course feel the need to respond.... "ernstn" one of the first rules of arguments is to keep to the point and not change the subject and then go off. Moederloos same applies to you. Read my post properly.

If you read properly, you will see that my complaint was with WillySA complaining that nothing he wanted was getting cached. How does he expect this to happen? Someone else local has to download it first. My point was why can't he? Why wait for someone else to do it! And it was that attitude of waiting for something to happen rather than being proactive that led to me saying "bye bye".

You then argue that you guys are trying to make something happen via this forum. Same point. Please read properly before having a go.

And Bwana if you think leeching is the point of servers, your attitude is right up there with WillySA's.

Remember the term comes from the name for a bloodsucking worm! In internet terms "a leech or leecher is considered to be a user who downloads files and provides few or no uploads in return. Crackers also use this term to describe those who constantly request sources and information and offer nothing in return."

I, in my infinite stupidity, actually thought the point of newsservers etc was sharing. My mistake!

Willy, get some saix local bandwidth to use the saix news server as an alternative to the IS server, otherwise get genuine saix access and get yourself a giganews or easynews account overseas. You wont be able to download that much using international accounts as saix int. bandwidth is not cheap.

can i setup grabit ONLY to use the saix account but use openvrowse for normal browsing, emails etc

Very few people upload files to news server - the whole point of them is leeching. Perhaps you're confused with torrents?

Here's a brief excerpt from wikipedia and while the last sentence is the most important it is all pertinent to the discussion.

Yes, it was. News servers are about dissemination.
