C# / ASP.NET Developer position available

Is that the senior/tech lead position for 17k-25k?

A little low for a position with that much responsibility?

Erm... no? Where did you get those numbers from? IIRC the salary is specified as "negotiable" and there was no mention of senior / lead responsibilities.

If you're referring to the position on our site, that's not our vacancy. It's a vacancy for a client, using our solution.

Is it just me, or should salary be put on all job advertisements?
It's a bit tough to investigate when you don't have a ballpark figure of where the salary will be.

It's extremely frustrating when you follow up on a ad and then a few emails/phone calls later you realise you were just wasting your time. Grrr...

I've been preaching this for ages. It wastes both parties time.

Thing is, the salary REALLY is dependent on what you can do. It can range from R15k - R35k CTC per month, so if you feel you have the skills listed in the ad, feel free to apply and we can set up an interview. Obviously, the more experience you have and the better your skill-set, the higher the remuneration.

I'm chuckling because now you just know every single Tom, Dick and Harry is going to demand the 35k irregardless of their skillset. It's a no-win situation.

(Forgive me if I'm wrong) buy I don't think FarligOpptreden writes the cheques :)

They might demand it, but that's not to say they're gonna get it. I can very quickly judge the skills and capacity of a potential developer. Besides, a possible skills test (based on their claimed knowledge and skills) will very easily point out the truth, leading to the possible offer. So it's not really a no-win situation.

You are 100% correct in that, but I have the final say in who gets the cheque paid into their bank account at the end of the month... ;)

You should still state what the range is and say it depends on experience. If you want a developer with 5 years of experience and your range is R10k to R30k, I'm looking elsewhere.

Again, that's why I'd rather not state anything, but leave it up to the interview. If you're interested, apply and lets set up an interview.

EDIT: I see the statement I made as an example could've been take literally. :p I modified the post with the numbers.

Not interested thanks, just accepted a new role. Good luck finding a candidate, from what I hear its TOUGH to find a good intermediate/senior developer. Incidentally, why do so many people over estimate their skills?

But back to the displaying of salary issue, I think its essential to give a ballpark figure. It gives you an idea whether the company would be willing to meet your expectations. I mean, some companies over embarrassingly low salaries. Rather find that out at the beginning so you dont waste your time. In fact, not displaying a salary usually makes me think the company doesnt want it known because they are cheap. Sorry if that offends you, but it kinda points to companies not being willing or able to pay top dollar for good candidates.

I'm sure you're an excellent judge of programming skill & can set a fair salary accordingly. The issue rather is how many suitable candidates decide not to bother at all, perhaps interpreting it as indecisive or not dealing openly?

I suppose it could work in the opposite direction too though. i.e. The people purely after the $$$ will stay away, while those looking for a good working env might show more interest.

I see the ad makes provision for the Qualified By Experience crew though, which is def a positive move.

I hope you find someone suitable.

I can understand where you're coming from with this, but the fact is that we really need someone with at least intermediate skills (minimum of 3 years SOLID experience) and would also settle for someone extremely senior - and would be willing to pay for it as well. Specifying a salary range of R10k - R80k per month then becomes pretty pointless, as intermediate (or even junior) devs would apply, hoping to earn close to the upper end of the bracket...

*BUMP*

OK, seriously people. I need 3 more top candidates by tomorrow afternoon. If you've a skilled dev, please get in contact with me. Salary REALLY is highly negotiable and if you can prove your worth we'll be more than happy to pay the asking price.
