Analogue TV switch-off delayed in South Africa

Communications minister Solly Malatsi has announced that he has secured cabinet's support to delay South Africa's analogue television switch-off from 31 December 2024 to 31 March 2025.

"This extension will ensure that as many indigent households as possible will enjoy their right to access broadcast services," Malatsi stated.

I mean if they've not done it in 14 years, what makes you think 3 more months will matter?

Can't seem to find that right listed under the basic human rights list... so citation is needed or I'm calling BS.

List

Keep your eyes peeled, they are going to start handing out set top boxes in the Khasi, like Koeksisters at a Kerk Bazaar.

They won't rush to get their set top boxes.... until you actually switch the damn thing off.
And it isn't even as though there would be a violation of their human rights or anything. People will miss a few episodes of their Soap Operas before they get a chance to pick up a set top box.

The people delaying this seem to have it in their heads that if you turn of the analogue signal, then millions of people will never be able to watch TV again.

I mean, the Government doesn't seem to mind people not having water, electricity, functioning schools and hospitals ... but god forbid they stop the masses from watching Isidingo for 2 days.
