Cable for Omni areal.

Hi Guys,

In an attempt to better my signal, I need to move the areal around the house to check where I get the best signal. I have the desktop modem and an omni areal.

Is this the cable I will need?

What I did about 2 years ago (when Iworst still cared) was to phone their technical help desk. I explained the signal issue and thety send out one of their techies on their costs (:D) to test and install aerial etc.

Done that twice :D - so I got 2 aerials on the roof - but the signal has deteriorated - so sticking your thumb in the air while connected to Iworst might be just as good a solution ;)

:D

Looks like it, but someone else with more knowledge should confirm it.

You'll need low loss LMA cabling....
Those connectors are not the right ones.

Poynting or Miro Distribution will be able to help (Miro probably a bit cheaper...).
Just tell them you need it for an iBurst Omni, they'll know the right one.

Thanx ben, will contact them and hear what they say. Will it be better to get the other areal (can't remember name), the direct one. :o

The Flat panel Antenna is most definitely better than the OMNI.
It is directional so you will need to know which base station you are connection to in order to point it towards it.
Use the iBurst coverage map to see where your closest tower is.

The flat panel is useful for connectivity at a large distance from the base station. At closer distances the omni is a better bet as it will allow for fail-over to an alternative base station should an outage occur.

directional is a better solution in terms of antenna strength, but you Line of sight will need to be pretty good.

Do you guys think Iburst will charge you to install the flat panel antenna if you buy it from them? I am sure they have all the stuffs to do the best install, regarding signal testing to the tower. I have an idea where the tower is, but human error < laptop and Iburst techie. :D

Yes we would have to charge you for the installation however please send me your account details and contact number and i'll see what i can do for you.

Just thought I should share this, my Iburst was "okay" before I went on leave in Dec09. I went to RTB for 2 weeks and took my IBurst with to test it there, only to find out that there isn't an Iburst in RTB anymore. Still, I put my omni antenna in the window and connected everything up. I got download speeds of around +-90kb/s.

Now, I think this might be because I was the only one connecting to the tower there. :p Got back on the 3rd of Jan2010 and did a kinda proper install of my omni on the roof, better (I thought) than before I left to RTB, but now have poor latencies and download speeds of about 20-30kb/s. :(

I have now arranged for one of the Iburst techies to come to my place and help me look for the best place of mounting the antenna and if I can go for the flat panel antenna.

So, friday came and friday went. I PMed iBurst on Friday @ about 4pm and they phoned me and said they needed the iburst username. Gave it and then they said they are going to phone me back... So, ja, still waiting.
