Cable was actually perfect

Never experienced it. In-laws have ancient DSTV and it is much better than the streaming app. But I prefer to watch what I want, when I want , and not wait for a specific time slot. They also always have some sort of issue , specially during bad weather, however Internet will not be a solution where they live.

I would argue the times of "cable" was better than this new age of subscription based models over various platforms and then there are still varies complicated restrictions on content and forever increases in prices and package changes.

However, IPTV......

No Youtube was first and Netflix copied them.
Youtube concept sure, but Netflix did start the process of becoming a streamer in 2007 already, they wanted it to be a download like Catchup or TVR type concept at the start until they looked at Youtube and went hey... If they can do that

Yeah bad weather was always an issue with satellite TV :-). One advantage is if the internet does go down you've still got some form of entertainment

Main problem with Dstv is that they've basically gone back to 10-15 years ago when series were aired a year later. Mnet has lost it's "Magic" as they aired The Pitt S1 & Tulsa King S2 (Tulsa King S3 completed already) still about a month ago iirc and most of these series can be watched immediately via high seas after it has aired in the US. I remember a few years back Mnet got it right airing series straight after US aired it and you could watch these episodes at 3am if you had insomnia like @FiestaST. I truly believe they should do this with most shows again if you want to bring Mnet back. Sports on Dstv will always be a winner. Enjoying the Betway20

I noticed that with the Rookie and such, being almost a year ago. Though I am wondering if that could've been due to the Canal Plus thing that held up some licenses.
But yeah really odd where we had to be almost on par with the US to now going back to previous season.

This could be the reason why people are cord cutting Dstv.... Task aired immediately on Showmax like most HBO shows. It's currently being aired on Mnet. There's a serious delay with content on Mnet

It could be, though for me it allowed time to go through other stuff before going back to stuff on M-net.

Cable (and DSTV) is kak. I want to watch what I want to when I want to. Aimlessly flicking through dozens of channels to determine which show currently playing is the least detestable is some sort of hell. I can't believe that anyone with any intelligence is actually OK with that. Maybe you get lucky and Top Gear is playing, of course you then check the runtime and see that its the last 10 minutes 🤮

Yet you aimlessly scan through a streaming service to find something to watch :-).
