In the last few months I seem to have developed some kind of weird intolerance for caffeine. I used to be a pretty big coffee drinker, sometime three or four cups a day, but now I can't consume that much caffeine any longer.

Thing is, if say, I drink a cup of coffee when I wake up at 7, and then another at 10 or 11 am, I suddenly have to go to the bathroom to urinate like mad. I'm talking somewhere between every 15 - 30 minutes, which is really frequent. As you can expect, this becomes a major problem, especially considering I'm a student and classes run for 50 minutes. I've had to dial back my caffeine intake considerably to the point where I drink one cup max or some days skip coffee altogether. I also absolutely can't drink any coffee that is strong. I'm stuck drinking crap like Frisco or Ricoffy, because anything stronger causes issues. Fizzy drinks like Coke have the same effect if I drink large quantities.

I'm going to schedule an appointment with a doctor as soon as my classes for the year end, but I thought I'd just ask here if someone doesn't perhaps have any advice? It's strange, because I never used to have these issues. I know caffeine makes you go to the bathroom more often, but this is just plain ridiculous.

Do you get extra thirsty?

How much sugar do you take?

Crap, didn't know it could be a sign of diabetes. Going to see if I can make an appointment asap. This weekend, if possible.

I had bloodwork done the start of the year, though. Wouldn't they have picked something up, or do they specifically have to test for it?

You'll need to do fasting blood sugar tests, and also tests to see how your sugar and insulin levels react to food. Unlikely to be picked up in a routine scan unless you are pretty hyper at the time.

Yeah, last time I had to fast before the blood tests. They were testing liver function and a few other things. Can't remember, but I'll do some anyway just to be sure. Really don't want to mess around with possible diabetes.

I'm a pretty big sugar user. Often eat lots of sweets, especially chocolate, 3 sugars in my coffee, etc.

Argh, stressing so much right now. Really hope it isn't diabetes. Even if it isn't, it might be my cue to start moderating my sugar intake, though.

Super wise words there mate. Even if it is diabetes, it's manageable so don't freak out too much.

WTF are you okes on about LOL

It makes you need to piss. You realize that is the one bad thing about? The more you drink the more you will piss. I doubt there is anything wrong, too much caffeine causing you to piss a lot.

Very simple fix if you are going to drink caffeine, do not drink water.

Simple fix to your problem is don't consume very much liquid if you need a steady bladder. If you drink water take a few sips and fill your body up night when pissing is easy.

When i go out to see clients in far area's like 100-500km's away i don't drink anything.

Coke is loaded with caffeine so naturally once again you will piss often.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diuretic Go drink a couple monster and you will be pissing every 5 mins.

Caffiene is a diuretic it will make you urinate a lot the more you drink the more you will go.

The diabetes are resonable concerns as well. Notice injuries take long to heal ? cracks on the heals ? google symptoms but if you going to the Dr dont waste your time with a random blood glucose test, if your medical aid covers it do a glycated haemoglobin blood test, its more definitive for diagnostics. Called an Hba1c test

One of the warning signs of diabetes is _INCREASED_ thirst and urination.
Obviously, if you drink more you pee more... but if you're suddenly peeing a lot more without drinking more, it's a possible warning, and there is no harm whatsoever in getting tested.

Well, I pretty much have stopped. Some days I don't even drink coffee now, where previously I would be able to drink three or four cups a day and still go on as normal.

Can't really say I've noticed any injuries taking longer to heal, but the last few times I've hurt myself I wasn't really checking for things like that so can't really remember. My appetite has also increased a lot in the last year or so, but that might also just be coincidental.

At the very least a check-up can't hurt. Might just end up being something simple like a bladder infection, but it won't hurt to be sure. Rather that than ignoring it and one day ending up in hospital in a near-death state. :p

I also drink about 4 cups of filter coffee between 6 and 12 in the morning and I'm going to the bathroom a lot. It is a fact that coffee dehidrates you, just like alcohol.
Also, nothing to do with diabetes. In any case, I drink no sugar in my coffee.

If it makes you feel any better I have the exact same problem, as soon as I hit my 2nd cup of coffee for the day, I start running to the bathroom every 20min, had myself tested and I don't have diabetes, the problem dissapears if I cut out caffiene, but I love my morning coffee so I just endure the problem in the mornings:) But keep me updated, if you do find something wrong (I doubt its diabetes)

Frisco and Ricoffy can barely be considered coffee, so not surprising they have almost no affect.

I have experienced a complete loss of tolerance for caffeine three times in my life, but that was to all effects, not only the diuretic one. Simply drinking it regularly for a week quickly got rid of the diuretic effect, but if you've tried that without success then giving it up is the only option.

If this only occurs with caffeine, then it probably is the caffeine.

Fizzy drinks like Coke have the same effect if I drink large quantities.
That would surely be expected, caffeine or not.

It's a fairly mild diuretic and tolerance usually develops quickly. So it does not dehydrate regular users.

I find when I drink Ricoffy, Nescafe etc(plastic coffee as we call it) then it makes me go to the toilet 3 or 4 times after a cup. So we stick to filter coffee, which does not have that effect, though it keeps us regular, you know nr 2...hehe! It is good to drink water in between though.

I dunno if you are going to drink something that makes you piss, water will only enhance the effects.

No water is very important lost fluids must be replaced. The only time you don't replace what you lose is when you have a medical condition like hypertension. Or when on a strict diet and training programme
