This or it declines, that's why I tell the cashier to just restart the transaction, as I know the swipe will decline.
 
I had the unfortunate experience of having to collect a package at the post office last week. Cash or swipe are the only options.
 
Insert card is equivalent to swipe, swipe shouldn't be needed. But this is SA, so on it will go.
 
Bank Zero pretends to be this innovative disrupter, but their cards can't be used for tap and go. That has been my experience despite trying to have it enabled numerous times and I've closed my account this month because of this.
 
First thing I do when I get a new physical card is scratch out the magnetic stripe for security reasons. Never had a problem.
 
Can you please clarify whether the chip cards also will loose the magnetic stripe. And also will there not be a need for Chip cards now that we have NFC and tap and pay?

The chip is an integral part of how tap and pay works. Without the chip there is no tap and pay.

Everything will change over time, but at this stage it's just talk, no magnetic strips being removed by any other bank yet.
 
Agree about getting rid of the the mag strip, and especially at tolls.

I have a credit card and never ever use the physical card - i tap to pay. Went to KZN in Jan, had to swipe to get to Ballito, few days later no coincidence some fraudulent transactions were processed on that physical card.

The NFC loop is connected to the chip. The chip handles both contactless payments (tap) and contact payments (insert).

Yeah, from what I've heard, they've been very slow to adopt chip & pin, never mind tap&go etc.

Considering how advanced in some ways, it is surprising to see how far they are behind here.

Another example is their voting system in some States, madness.
