What bull****.
Anyone willing to pay R4.5k / PM for a maid?
Honestly an issue I'm torn in two about. On one hand, there is no way I could afford my kids' nanny that even though she looks after the most important people in our lives.
On the other, I remember living on 4k a month, I could barely do it living in a township and transport.
But this is unaffordable, I pay around 3k as it is!
Actually you can...
the profitability of a business should not determine the lower end of its employee bases salary. As much as that sounds like a noble thing, it just won't work.
and i call that greed
The topic title should be changed to "Calls for massive increase in unemployment"
Like someone else alluded to, people who work at minimum wage already take massive chances with sick leave or just don't adhere to the leave policy and simply don't rock up for weeks and then expect their jobs to be there when they get back etc.

Do this and the unemployed momentum behind those daily service delivery protests will turn into Civil Wars.
Minimum salary for taxi drivers is R4500 already.
That comment about capitalists made me wonder, business owners, would you rather
a) Make R2x profit while your workers are barely scraping by on minimum wage or
b) Make Rx profit and pay your workers more
