Camera Straps

Tired of my neck strap hooking on to things and attempting to worm its way into the frame I put this together from an old camcorder strap.

If you dont use a neck strap what do you use?
 
When you're not using the camera, how do you hold it or carry it around? Do you keep it in your hand or do you put it in your bag? Isn't it a bit of a hassle sometimes by having to take it out the bag every time you want to take a photo instead of it hanging around your neck?
 
I just hold it - it's really uncomfortable having that camera thump me in the chest when I'm walking.

The same strap works with my 400D with the grip. I think I can also modify it to work without the grip using the tripod mount - I just need to find the right sized screw.
 
I'm glad you posted! I completely forgot I wanted to get myself a Black Rapids R-Strap while I'm here.

I just use the one that came with the Camera, but I agree, it's not comfortable around the neck. I find I usually hang it over my shoulder instead - makes it more cumbersome to get ready to shoot though.

Bit of a thread resurrection, I know, but I picked up a RS-Sport 2 yesterday and I'm loving it.
 
Nice! I love mine. Carrying the camera all day used to be a pain in the neck (literally) - now it's a pleasure. Now if I can just get my camera back from Canon in a working state... :o

Good idea, it must look a bit odd just walking around with the strap and no camera . . . :whistle:
 
i recently got a black rapid and absolutely love it! it makes like so much easier, it is a little nerve racking when i walk through doors or close to walls i always think i am going to hit my camera on something. but other than that the blackrapid was an awesome buy, Orms had them is stock i am not sure if they still do

For the record, it's a quarter inch bolt with 20 threads per inch. Yeah I know it's imperial and you'll find this item at a place like JKM in Ferndale, Randburg.

I threw out my camera strap long ago and now have a combination of a BlackRapid RS-Sport 2 type of system but the cheaper Phottix brand and then a hand strap. The only change I would like to make is to upgrade them with those snap-in buckles that make changing systems easier. Right now my hand strap is literally buckled tight to the right strap mount and then to the battery grip so this makes removing the grip a right royal pain in the @$$.

I find the hand strap is very comfortable and the camera seems to hang in my hand and feels pretty secure. I use the over-shoulder strap system when I'm on a photo specific outing like at the zoo where I might need to let the camera hang whilst I'm walking around but it's ready to go at a moment's notice.

LOL! Well, I can hang the film body off it. I've been discovering the joys of 800 ISO colour negs for the last month. IT's not a great daylight film... I've also confirmed what I've suspected for a long time: The Canon 500N has a pretty awful light meter.

Maybe they're put off by the price. I know I was - avoided getting one for three years. Now I can't believe I waited that long!

This very cheep piece of metal is supposed to take the weight of a modern DSLR and lens. The thread on the safety screw is sloppy and comes undone. This point carries all the weight of your equipment, and Phottix have ruined what could be a great product by using a low quality substandard cheap piece of mass produced clip. I got lucky the first time I was out using the the straps it broke on me and I managed to catch my camera as it plummeted to the ground. At the moment I would not recomend this camera strap, until Phottix spend a few more cents on the safety of your equipment.

Not a chance would I trust a 300mm f/2.8 and a 1D to this.

Except that the image shown where he talks about the carabiner is not the one on the system though. The image above it shows the correct linkage and it's way stronger than the carabiner. Bottom line though, it's not that difficult to add a safety strap to any system to guard against the main strap/clip breaking.

I bought the cheap Phottix (about R350) with the justification that if I find myself using the system a lot then I will upgrade to a better version like the BlackRapid.
