Local programming houses tend to develop custom systems for which they charge and control their Intelectual Property.
Businesswise piracy is a bad thing as it adds an unnessary risk. But as much as I care, piracy on products not being at least partially developed in SA can be 100%.

Shouldn't this be done by someone without a vested interest in distorting the law? You cannot trust the BSA and SAFACT.

You mean people they'd actually caught? Otherwise they're offering nothing. Businesses could just quietly buy their software. No need for this 'generous' gesture from the BS alliance.

Perhaps piracy would not be as bad if we weren't ripp-off quite as badly...
Distribution price for Windows XP Pro (DSP)... around R1050.
XP Home from incredible R1199, XP pro around R2999 (more than double)
Office Proffessional (DSP)... Around R2100 from many distributors.
Retail for a boxed copy of standard R3999, I think prof was around R6000...
(Three times the price!)
US Pricing. Windows XP pro (Full retail version) : +-R2000
Office 2003 pro (full retail) : R3243
R6.5:$1
in terms of flights... if you're buying 3 copies of office pro and XP pro for your small bussiness, it's cheaper to get a visa, fly to the states, buy and fly back!
no bloody wonder piracy is so high... BTW I'm legal, everytime I buy a new PC, I get DSP's of the latest office and windows (just in case the damn BSA get's ideas)
