Can anyone recommend Afrihost?

well if you where a month earlier :P

i have the uncapped, and the 50 gig account. Together they cost me R450 or so.

i did 235 gigs on uncapped :P i wasn't pushing it, and then use the 50 gig when im looking for pure speed or whatever :)

but i would recommend them. My 50 gig capped account, goes at 440kb/s all the time.
 
The special on the gold packages has been active since January, if I'm not mistaken. It was slated to end on 31 March, but was extended to 31 May > 31 August and now 31 December. Who knows, maybe it will be extended again or become a permanent thing?
 
How much is there uncapped unshaped 4MB account?
What speeds do you get on P2P/Astraweb/News?

So if you do approx 200gigs per month, and you not too heavily shaped, i should be fine with 100gigs total on the 4 meg uncapped?
 
Been with AfriHost for a long time now, ever since they started their R29/Gig thing.

First started off with a 1Gb account, then have to upgrade it to 2Gb, then 3Gb.

Now I've got 3Gb which I pay for, and a free 1Gb account.

Happy days... I would definitely recommend their capped services, but not their uncapped services, these still need a lot of ironing out.

I would sort of agree with this statement. I have a 10MB uncapped line which I can rape for the first 20 odd gigs then things start to slow down to about 100KB, after about 35odd GB I get 60KB and for the rest of the month it seems I get a solid 40KB.

how many of you guys on the buy afrihost 25gig+25gig free account ? is the latency good for gaming and are the speeds good ? :)
 
Hmmmmmmmmm. I'm tempted to move back to Afrihost.

I was with them on uncapped and they sucked (shaped heavily and punished you for high usage)! I moved over to Web Africa capped and it was the good times! Fast speed and cheap gigs. But they recently jacked up their prices like 150% so definitely not staying with them...

So might go back to Afrihost capped. I hate going backwards but they do offer the lowest price per gig at the moment... Just hope our speeds are good both in the day and the evenings.

Play a little online (not much, and local not international - quake), and my pings are pretty good. I've already posted speed test results on page 1.
 
We use them but have moved internet and internet is now faster, emails go down and become slow at least once a month

I wouldn't use AH as a primary business account but its fine for home or as an additional account etc
 
Not UNCAPPED

Hi, as per the title of the thread "Can anyone recommend Afrihost?", well if you're after Uncapped, I'd say stay away, stay very far away!

I decided this month that I'd try and push my 384 line a bit to see how much I can get out of the account. It's now the 12th, and my downloads finished at around 10:30 last night.

I downloaded the following:
For the first two days, just torrents... (indicated by the blue block in the image)
For the rest, I downloaded the 10.04.1 and 10.10 ISO's for Ubuntu,all of them, around 8,9GB in total. (Indicated by the red block in the images).

As you can see, the torrents where shaped to high hell during business hours during the first 3 days. Then they finished and I started with the HTTP downloads from mirror.ac.za. For about an hour, I got around 330Kb/s (which seems to be the maximum I ever got from this line), then they THROTTLED (I don't think anyone shapes HTTP traffic) me to 200Kb/s. About a day later 128Kb/s and eventually I was running at 96Kb/s

Below is my afrihost client zone view of my account. See how the blue bars go down, down, down every day.

I've done 18.124 GB up to now.

In short, the Uncapped offering sucks...it's not as if I've been causing massive problems for them. I've only been downloading at a MAXIMUM of 330Kbps. Compared to some people that's insignificant.

I don't mind shaping torrents, especially during business hours. The account is not advertised as unshaped so I shouldn't expect it to be. HTTP is another story though
