Can I connect to a Windows Shared Printer from Ubuntu?

Well... can I?

It's a Samsung multi-function laser printer

i am sure u can I know how to do it with Mandriva but havent a clue with ubuntu

OK, I went to the Ubuntu control Panel item for Printing and it set up the network connection (it found the printer on the Samba network)... but... problem is... the drivers are not offered online for that version of printer. i am gonna see if I can find them on the CD (Ja... fat chance!)

Ha Ha... what do you know... there are Linux drivers on the Samsung CD... good to know. I found the correct PPD file and copied it into the profile. It didn't want to do a Test page... so I am just rebooting now and will try again.

hmm... it does not work. The printer just says "stopped" ... and even though it can see the Samba share... it won't verify it as working.

Samsung comes with a Linux installer, install all the accessories, will make life a little easier.

Also, turn of your firewall on the Windows box while trying to get this working.

EDIT:
Also, please do not reboot your PC! It is not windows, all you need to do is restart the CUPS daemon.

OK, will try that tomorrow. The linux installer did not want to launch when I inserted the Samsung CD. Will see what is going on there tomorrow. I dunno how to restart a daemon... do I have to draw a pentagram on the ground first?

Insert CD into drive, read the installation file or "READ ME" and follow the easy steps.

The Ubuntu fanboys can help me out here, but usually you restart CUPS daemon with:
/etc/init.d/cupsd restart (Gentoo)
or
/etc/rc.d/cupsd restart (Arch Linux)
