Hello (sorry, I was a bit irritated),
We have emigrated from Holland to SA last september (so, please, excuse me for my weak language). Until this thursday we live in a temporary cottage in Scotsville, PMB. Because we have no landline, I've bought a MTN datacard and a Linksys router to access the Internet.
As I said (actually wrote), this week we will get the keys of our new home, so finally, we can settle in. But several decisions have to be made. I find it difficult to oversee all possibilities, so maybe someone can give me some reflections.
Here some details:
1) Until now we use Internet for connecting to Holland (family, friends and work) using Skype, E-mail and Weblog. I also planned to maintain a Website. On monthly base we used circa 2Gb at ZAR 390 (prepaid).
2) Here in Scotsville we have a good coverage (3G/HSPDA), but in our new area (Chase Valley Heights) we have an (lesser) EDGE.
3) we can take over the landline from the former owner, but for now we are not missing it (until now we use cellphones and Skype). Even the alarm system can be connected through the cellular network.
4) Though, if we choose to, we then can order an 4096 kbps DSL (= standard in Holland for: +/- ZAR 240,=
Oeps) and benefits the speed and reliability???
5) We use (I work @ Home) two computers, which have to share the bandwidth.
Now, if I have read carefully enough, than w'll have the best results by using the SAIX backbone for our international connections (preferable unshaped).
A questions, which for me is difficult to answer, is whether we need a SA ISP (regarding the SAIX), or can we remain with our ISP in Holland (no data-limits, web-hosting, saving costs)?
I'll hope my question is clear enough, if so, can someone shed some light for me?
