er no..not with your router. to use fax, you'll need a standard analogue modem connected to your phone line (not thru a filter).

Err...wrong. You *DO* need a filter.
If you're planning on using ANY analogue devices on your phone line at the same time your ADSL is in use, you MUST use a filter.

If you don't use a filter, then your ADSL will most likely disconnect, or be very flaky.

oops, yes you're right...has a blonde moment!

@King-Tech

Here'z how it works ...
1 - There is an ADSL telephone line coming into your house somewhere.
2 - There is supposed to be a filter on that line, one side of the filter goes to your ADSL modem, the other side of the filter is a normal telephone line.
3 - On the normal telephone line part you can do all the normal telephone stuff, like install a normal fax/modem, or a fax machine, or a telephone, or a Caller Line Id Device or a Telephone Call Measuring System or a PABX...

So - if you have a filter installed, then you connect a normal fax/modem onto that part of your telephone line, connect the modem to your PC, and use it as you always did.

If you don't have a filter, you are going to have to get one and install it correctly. Without the filter, using the ADSL line as a telephone line will result in interference on the ADSL line.

Cool ?

Filter doesn't help ADSL "flaky" much.
For ADSL modem/router, the SPLITER is the best choice. like the name, the spliter "splits" voice and ADSL signal (based on frequency difference) into their own destination device. Filter is designed for conventional telecommunication terminals (phone, fax, in/external modem etc.), it simply filter out the ADSL signal to avoid the interference.
If you only have one line outlet, one Spliter is enough for both ADSL modem/router and phone/fax. If you have other outlets in your house for normal phone/faxes, use extra FILTER for each outlet.
Set up in this way, you can use your internet and phone/faxes at same time (anytime) without any hassle.
Back to your question, you need a analogue fax modem (internal/external) for your Winfax software.
BTW, we don't know what kind of Dlink router you have, if it's an ADSL modem/router integrate, you don't need extra ADSL modem at all.

Most people messed up the concept of ADSL Splitter and Filter, they are similar but different.
From outside looking, Splitter has two outlets, and Filter only gets one. Simply, Spliter separates the signals, and Filter filters out specific signal.
