Hi,

I'm on telkom's do2 at the moment. Just been doing some reading up on Afrihost and a couple of other members posts and would just like to confirm whether it's possible to have 2 isp's? I use the 3 gig international bandwidth (with telkom) within 2 weeks, so signing up with Afrihost for that 2 gig account would be brilliant. If it is possible to have 2 isp's, how does it work? Which bandwidth would be used up first, or would Telkom and Afrihost's international bandwidth be used simultaneously?

Thanks in advance.

Yes, you can... you just swap the details in the router when you have used up the one account's bandwidth and then you start using the other account. You choose which one you want to use first.

Or you can search this site to see how you can use bridge mode or half-bridge mode to chop and change quickly between the two accounts.

In your router configuration you would put in the username and password of your first account. Once you deplete your first account, you go into your router configuration again and enter the second account details. So in essence you keep swapping accounts.

Why don't you cancel your Telkom account and get a higher usage Afrihost account?

Prompt response...thanks!

I'm contracted to Telkom - 2 years, but it should be over within the next six months or sooner. Not sure what the conditions of the contract are though? If it's just the adsl line rental, or the adsl line rental plus bandwidth. Please advise. Or otherwise I'd have to find the T's & C's

If you have a contract with Telkom for the line AND the ISP portion for 2 years, then I am not sure if you can cancel just the ISP portion before the two years are up. Maybe someone else can comment?

Yes, you can cancel if you're on a 2 year contract. You have to pay R71 per month (modem cost apparently) for every month you still have left on the contract as a once off payment. So for six months you would pay around R430 rand once off as a cancellation fee (or R490 if you are billed in advance...)
