Can I rely on Gautrain for work?

I may need to go to Sandton daily (Rivonia road) for a while for work. How reliable, with the buses combined, is it?

And how long would it take me from Centurion, including bus time? Or would it be better to just drive myself? I know driving there takes a few hours (8-5).

The train is highly reliable, have been using it from Hatfield to Sandton for the last 4 or so months and previously from Centurion to JHB CBD.

Taking it from Centurion is fine though depending on timing you might have to push to get on - by the time it arrives at Centurion its pretty well subscribed. Also try target the 8-car trains as there is likely to be more space, even for standing.

The buses are a mixed bag from when i used to use them in Centurion. They are not as reliable time-wise as the train and its easy to miss one at the station because it arrives just a few mins earlier or is delayed in traffic. I now drive to Hatfield, leave my car there and take the train, then walk in Sandton. Also the new website / app makes it easy to manage your card and trips so you can miss the queues at the station

Edit: Trip time from Centurion station to Sandton is approx 20mins
 
Short answer- yes. The train is highly reliable. Our company has a shuttle for the employees though so can't comment on the busses.
 
Have the bus drivers stopped going on strike so much? That was a big issue why I didn't use it in the end (the other was that my personal journey time was easily double or more than just taking the car).

Bus trips DO take longer due to all the stops. While i used the busses last year they DID go on strike so if you can - self driving works better. Its overall R14 more expensive (bus charge vs parking charge) but so worth the convenience

Or simply use Uber. Depending on how much you value your time, it may be feasible. Can be a problem from Sandton though due to the metered taxi drivers. Works fine from Rosebank though.
 
Can't rely much on any service delivery in this country if its core infrastructure can be stolen for financial gain.

how much for parking at malboro for the entire day,
train journey to centurion and bus journey to techno park,

would love to know how much it costs, as its not really mentioned on the site anymore.

Think it's R21. But Marlboro is really Alexandra, and I wouldn't risk parking my car there.

yes, parking is quite safe, patrolled constantly especially if you leave your car there.

done it a few times when I used to catch the train to sandton CBD, figured its easier than sitting in Sandtons legendary Jams...

I was using my car during the bus strike. Sandton was fine.

Besides, traffic has nothing to do with my point.
 
Train is very reliable, the bus to me is sometimes just like a local taxi. Slow!!
