Hey guys, I recently got an iPhone 11 on contract but the display hurts my eyes, so i want to return it to the Vodacom store to get an iPhone 12. I phoned the store and they told me I'm not allowed to return it, So i phoned vodacoms head offices and they told me I have 7 days to take the device back if i'm not happy with it. I've only had it for 5 days.

Can anyone tell me what I should do next?

All networks do business subject to the rules of the CPA. You can return the device within 7 days. Some retailers charge you a handling fee if a device is opened.

An upgrade you can actually return within 30 days. The store needs to accept the cancellation based on the grounds that the device is not fit for purpose, seeing that it hurts your eyes. If they do not have a live demo device in store, it helps you immensely. Most Vodacom shops are privately owned, so if you get no joy with staff an management, ask for the owner’s details.

Thanks a lot bro , they don't have this one as a demo in the store. The Staff at Vodacom Eastgate is extremely rude , I'll see if I can sort this out tomorrow, thanks again

Remember the countdown start the moment the lock onto the network for the first time.

No worries! They need to assist you. The vodacom shop guys are seemingly biased against iPhone contracts as they do not get incentives from the manufacturer as they do with other brands like samsung and huawei.

Once your contract is cancelled, try the istores for your upgrade as they do vodacom upgrades, they should have all available models on display and the knowledge that goes with it. Always had great service there

if its a hicell owned dealer, forget it, they are the worst! sold me an upgrade in December, knowing full well it wouldn't fit exactly what i described to them. Point blank refused to cancel the upgrade the next day, even hung up on vodacom who tried to call them. I would rather deal with the sabc before going to a hicell owned dealer again

I looked and in the same mall Vodacom4u belongs to them , and I went to the normal Vodacom store in Eastgate so l think i should be okay , I'll update you guys on what happens tomorrow :) They seemed very stubborn over the phone so I dont have high hopes...

They don't have a choice. Do not take no for an answer. Makate style. Otherwise report them and make their life hell. Keep proof of all communication if you can.

I'm going to point out the valid points and if they say no then it's time for Makate lol.

I remember when I got my first phone on MTN. They told me if I am not happy I can return it within 7 days and with original package and everything that came with it.

What you mean brother
With Vodacom's 7 day replacement OBF policy (out of box failure) they start counting the 7 days from the minute you first power up with a sim in it and they can verify that from your phone logs.

I should be okay then, I got it last week friday afternoon , so tomorrow is only 6 days.

Thanks

They do have a legal way of getting around the CPA here with contract supplied devices. You do not actually buy or own the device when taking a contract or anytime during that contract. The device is supplied to you at a monthly fee, but remains the property of the network. At the conclusion of the contract the "kindly" allow you keep the device rather than take it back.

9.1.2. Vodacom will remain the owner of the Apparatus for the duration of the Initial Period.
