Can I use A dstv satelite dish for mnet?

I am an mnet subscriber but because of my area the signal is weak through a normal ariel and the picture not too clear.

Just want to find out if I install a satelite dish, will I be able to use it with my Mnet decoder for a clearer picture.

No, no, no, and a thousand times no.

Ok, so technically it's not feasible to use a dish to receive a signal for your M-Net decoder. However, it is technically possible for Monochoice to activate only M-Net on a satellite decoder. But they won't. Because they don't give a damn what their customers want. Because they're a monopoly, and you have no choice. They'll use the fact that you want a clean signal to force you to buy a premium satellite subscription (the only subscription that comes with M-Net) at R 200 per month more than you pay now. They suck.

That sucks. gonna just have to buy a signal booster I guess. Those thing pack up every year from constant use.

alternative option is to get one of the light dstv packadges. you pay R200 for 34 channels ... its not much more than mnet and you get more for your money's worth.

I'm in a similar boat and this sucks big time. Surely monochoice can make a MNET only bouquet.

Thats monochoice for you. Force you into taking the premium package for alot of money or something not worth it for less.

They will probabily get a bright idea soon and discontinue Mnet standalone all together,

They'll have to discontinue the current analogue service at some point, purely because they'll have to migrate to digital. I guess they'll discontinue Mnet and create a some new packages for DSTV.

+1 MNet will somehow have to be migrated to satellite decoders due to the new law that plans to cancel all analogue television in SA by 2012. SA migration to digital

1. Either you wait it out, they'll have to roll out satellites and decoders or come up with a 'bring in your old one for a new one' scheme

2. Move to Premium (although the majority of channels suck, just now and then some of them sometimes come in handy)

3. Move house

im not sure, i dont think so, think you get mnet series, but you still get 34 channels and mnet is overated.

atleast with 34 channels you get sport, travel, cartoon network, music channels etc ... im sure its a whole lot better then just having mnet.

I'd still prefer mnet than to move to a dstv compact package, Besides the content we have 5 tv sets at home and the notion of deciding which channel to watch is scary.

I've not phoned to confirm, but it looks like you can add Xtraview to any existing package. You'll need another decoder though.

the only additional monthly cost (over and above your standard subscription) is the R55 access fee.
You need to be a DStv Premium, DStv Compact, DStv Indian or DStv Portuguesa subscriber in South Africa.

I'm not sure why more neighbours aren't going this route, one little coax cable in a conduit over to the neighbours place Illegal of course, but so is downloading Series. Multichoice has obviously considered this..

Mnet move to dvb-t next year.They are part of the test transmission.
