So i started up my pc today and when i wanted to access my 500Gig hard drive windows didnt detect it restarted and still nothing , checked the bios and nothing . Hard Drive seems to be spinning but windows nor the bios detects it , can it be dead

Probably dead, but try it on another SATA / power cable or in another PC first

Place it in a plastic bag, put it in the deep freeze for a couple of hours. Most of the time it will start up once and give you time to move files around.

Not sure about the freezer, never tried it, but i've also experienced this many times. Let it cool off for an evening and start it up the next day, should show up. Remove the data immediately, as you will notice if a few minutes / hours, it will start giving issues again. I have a 500 External drive that is doing the exact same thing currently.

What hdd drive is it?

If it is one those seagate's with that problem you can just get it swapped out and forget about any data you had :(

It is a seagate HDD , but which were the faulty drives , mine is a 7200.11 . And how sould you go about getting it swapped out ???

Well to me it looks like you have suffered the bug that plagued many many people including me twice,

Whoever you bought it from, go take it back and tell them what has happened and they must replace it.

The only problem is i bought it a year and a half ago and dont have the receipt anymore , should i still try and take it back ???

There is a 3 year warranty on that drive.
Take it back. Maybe they can scan the ba rcode and trace the deal.

@ToAsTeD: I have placed more hdd's in Deep freezes than Bafana wins, ok scrap that, they don't win
than honest politicians, ok scrap that too
Well take my word I have done it a lot. Never had problems. Just need to be protected from the ice/fluids.
It works about 80% - 90% of the time for me.
:)

There's a chance that's its a 7200.11 firmware issue. Please post your drive revision number (eg ST3500320AS). If it is this issue, then freezing wont help at all. The drive & data can be completely recovered. Please contact HTC_Guy for a quote. If you need help to go the DIY route, you know where to find me :)

Dude putting a firmware issued drive into a freezer or oven will do nothing, it is not broken in terms of the hardware. I do not see a freezer or oven fixing a software related problem :D but you can try it i guess.

so i took the HDD back today and they greatly accepted it and said i can come and fetch my new drive on friday :-)

The revision number you have there is the same as on the drive (ST3500320AS) and then the s/n number is 9QM4F9ES
