Can one run Two ISP account simultaneously on one DSL line?

Good Day

Wanted to know, can one use two different ISP account simultaneously on one line from two different telephone ports in the house?

Reason why I'm asking is, my friends father he signed up with Mweb premium 2Mbps uncapped shaped. The speed is already slow, but because of Mweb and typical uncapped shaped account the speed gets even slower.

He has been trying to ask his father to change ISP but no luck, since they have been with Mweb all the time and his father doesn't want to go through the process in changing.

So what I suggest my friend is sign up with different ISP for their Data package only and a new router for himself.

Now we both are wonder will the method work? Two routers, two account on One line?

YEs you can have as many as you want, enable PPOE passthrough on your router and create the accounts in windows as braodband accounts. Then from windows you can dial up to as many isp's as you want.

If you run a linux firewall you can do it from there as well. If you want to do it on a router level then your router must support connecting with more than 1 account.

Usually you will have a firewall connected to a adsl router, the firewall wil handle all the dialing up etc on multiple accounts and then you do your routing as needed.

PS: If PPOE passthrough is enabled any pc on the network can dial up to a adsl account of any isp. Your router can also still be connected to the mweb account while your friend dials up from his machine over PPPOE passthrough to the new isp.

In short you just need 1 router.

Ah, I think they only have a modem router. But sounds like its workable.

So your suggestion is, setup the router the receive two accounts and they can connect to their own account individually..

Hmm....gonna have to figure it out then.

No

Enable PPOE passthrough on the router, its 1 tick box. Then your friend dials from his computer. Whats the router model so that I can help you to enable it.

Everything else stays the same on the router, what will happen as soon as your friend dials up to the isp account from windows/mac/linux he will then be using that isp's network.

My friend will find out tonight when he gets home. But he has the MWEB supplied router.

Mweb doesnt make any hardware they re-brand current products. Its probably a Netgear/Dlink router.

Well,if you use PPPoE relay/HB mode, no settings are in the router for the internet? Correct?

Why not just upgrade to 4Meg?

I speak under correction in terms of the terminology, but my Old Billlion 7300G modem-router is in half-bridge mode and you would store your ISP account setting in there. So by default that account will be used for tablets and other mobile devices.

Then you can still connect to dial-up type broadband connection from your PC / laptop and use other ISP accounts that way.

+1, half bridge means there is an account dialled in the modem, and the ability to dial other accounts on other PCs.
