I have a Citiq prepaid sub-meter which is fed from the municipal meter. The Citiq meter has credit on it (+-4kl) but is not allowing water to flow through it. It has been established with a plumber that the meter is faulty.

Called Citiq, they say the meter can be fixed but the callout fee starts from R1300. A new meter costs about R2500.

Has anyone come across this issue/ knows to DIY repair?

These units are known to go faulty. They're rubbish.
I would suggest you replace it. Most of my successful repairs have been with the CIU, but I have never had access to a valve body primarily due to it having to be removed first, and then people chuck the thing in the bin before giving it to me so that I can at least see what goes wrong and come up with solutions.

What's the CIU?

And yes it's that product I have experience with.
OP- if you want my advice, send me a PM, I just need to confirm if the meter is your property, the body corporate's property or the muni's property

I don't quite get it. If it is the property of the OP, and even on his property, why not remove it and bin it....simply bypass and don't use it?

Totally off topic - but how much is prepaid water?

I saw a house for sale that has prepaid water and I’m worried about the cost, complexity, breakages etc

As far as I know prepaid water is never by the municipality... So if it's there and you're buying the house just remove it.

If its done by the HOA/BC then you'd have to ask them... 99% of the time it's some illegal tariff (some average based on their bill say).

when i stayed in CPT I had prepaid water, bought credits from the banks, tarrifs were good.
The meter was managed by some company, and we did not pay for callouts or replacements, I had mine replaced twice, and they transfer the credits to the new meter.

You paid 10% of your water spending to that company. That is to cover the callouts and replacement, however they are making a killing.

12% ! Yas that's daylight robbery. + VAT.

That 30% of your water bill you won't get anything for.

They use a carrot of giving the bc a cut of those fees they charge to swing them being the selected meter choice.

Hmmm I disupite this, I am part of my BC, and something like this would have to go through a vote.

Also lets say you're right, the BC is just managing the complex funds, so that would mean the owners are paying their water bills for the BC to get a cut which is ultimately the owners getting a cut ? that doesn't make sense.
