Car problem

Hi everyone, I was away for almost 4 weeks, and it seems like the battery died completely.
The remote didn't work, the lights, radio, and of course wouldn't start.

After jump starting it, it started, i drove it for 30 minutes and now it doesn't switch on again.

Would it be the battery or the alternator?
seems like a battery to me, because of the fact that i was away for so long...but why wont it recharge?
by the way, i know nothing about cars...lol
thanks,
Bar1

Definitely sounds like the battery, but I wouldn't necessarily rule out the alternator. How old is the battery?

Battery is 5 years old...so definitely time for a new one...

Battery centre and the likes will test if a cell or two is dead.gonna cost you a grand to replace.

ok....not too bad...actually thought a battery is like half of that, but then again, been a while since i replaced a battery.
will see if i can claim it back from work...lol

That'd be my first guess...

The average lifespan for a car battery is +- 5 - 7 years max. Definitely might be time to get it replaced. Get it checked out - when last have you checked the fluid levels?

You could get a cheaper one but rather opt for the maintenance free one

do they test the battery during service?
(i feel like i am asking stupid questions...lol)
if no, then never, if yes then December.

They should check the battery during every service, but I guess you can't always trust service centers...

I think if you kill old batteries by leaving the lights on etc. they get irreparably damaged and can't charge properly again. I killed my battery in Feb this year. A few weeks later the the battery refuses to charge at all. So had to get it replaced.

ok, so i went to HQ lonehill, and got great service.
They drove to my house, replaced my battery and tested the old one.
