This is an issue that has frustrated me for a while. I set up my mtn email settings and I can receive emails, but cannot send.

Do these details still apply, or have they changed since MTN announced that this month they would be upgrading to a new system:

incoming server: mail.mtnloaded.co.za
outgoing server: mail.mtn.co.za

Any suggestions otherwise? Thanks. I'm thinking that since what I need to send is time sensitive I should just go with Gmail. :p

Your email is with MTN...

Are you using MTN when send/receiving?

Specifically when sending ?

You need to use the smtp server of the isp that you are connected to when sending the email.

I see this message on their website:

Dear Customer

To meet the growing demand of the current MTN email service, MTN will be performing infrastructure upgrades.
All customers will benefit from the upgraded email platform. This upgrade will improve email performance and reliability.
During this infrastructure upgrade, please note that customers will only be able to access emails on the website; URL: mail.mtnloaded.co.za, accessing and downloading emails through 3rd party applications (e.g. Outlook) and through handsets and tablet's integrated email solutions, will not be available.
Accessibility to the site and performance may also be affected.
The upgrade is anticipated to be concluded by 5 April 2013.
Please accept our sincere apologies for any inconvenience caused, an update will be provided as soon as the upgrade has been completed. Thank you for your co-operation and understanding.
To access your Emails, Contacts or Calendar items please go to MTN Loaded at mail.mtnloaded.co.za.

Ah. That might be it. I'm using Cell C. I know I have Cell C's settings lying around somewhere. Anyway, I used Gmail in the end.

Yup you need to use the SMTP of the ISP when not using authenticated SMTP.

That's why things like Gmail are ultimately better as they have their own servers that require authentication and will work on any network.

I agree with you 100%. I have been using Gmail for some time now, but wanted to get to the root of this MTN issue. It was a silly mistake on my part, but hey, that's how one learns.
