Sorry if this is being posted in the wrong board. I have had issues with my adsl this whole year. I am with Mweb on a 4 meg uncapped premium account. After having posted on hellopeter (see here http://hellopeter.com/mweb/complaints/mweb-connection-still-rubbish-1531102) twice and having corresponded with mweb , had 3 visits form telkom technicians that all do the exact same thing which is: test line , say it looks fine ,say they're going to exchange and then never hearing from them again , I am out of options , i am willing to change isp is some rep can promise me they will try to fix my issue. Currently the state of the line is that it will just disconnect approx every 5 minutes and have a line noise in the range of 3- 12 , mweb claim that i am requesting the disconnects, This is not the case. On weekends the line is far more stable , so does that mean i am requesting disconnects less frequently on weekends? This is disgusting , they have been charging me approx 700 R each month for 9 months now and this issue has not been resolved. Can someone advise me with regards to this please. Sorry for bad grammar I am typing this fast because the connection could go at any time.

Test with free account from webafrica. See what it does. If prob resolved then change ISP. if not log another call with Telkom.

I don't think its your ISP as an ISP wont cause your router to DC or loose sync - if it was always slow and fast with other accounts that would be a different story entirely.

Firstly did you say your SNR (signal to noise ratio) is 3-12db because anything less than 10db will cause random DC's on 4mbps and above. How far are you from your exchange? Have you requested that Telkom do a port reset if that doesn't help request a DSLAM change. If that still doesn't work you have poor line quality to your exchange due to poor infrastructure or distance from your house to the exchange and the increase in your sync speed has caused your recent problem - for example did you have this issue when you where on 1mbps or 2mbps if ever? The higher you sync the lower your SNR goes - this is the reason Telkom are rolling out MSAN as most houses/buildings are too far away from an exchange to achieve anything close to 20mbps or 40mbps.

To get a stable 40mbps VDSL sync you need to live within 800m of a MSAN or Exchange for example.

Hope this helped.

Hi

I have received feedback from the team dealing with Telkom that they are in contact with you regarding this matter.
I can also see that they have brought this matter to the attention of management at Telkom.
