Can Sony survive its decline?

Hope they survive - they make good products. Bloody irritating thing about them is their bucking the trend and using their own "accessories" like the data cards for phones/cameras, when everyone else uses SD and microSD cards.

Apple will buy out Sony, and then use the Sony platform to launch the new Apple TV's

Watch this space

SOny TVs are a premium product and that division (albeit loss making) could get sucked into Apple.

My bigger question is what does one do with everything else Sony does?
* Music and Movies - Apple are a portal so owning the rights may be a conflict
* PS3 -
* DVD Players etc
* Computers
* Phones
* Photography
* Semi conductors
* Medical

SONY's Market Cap is a mere $10B (petty cash for Apple)
That doesnt mean that SONY Shareholders would accept it

Unless Sony spins off stuff I cant see Apple going through the hassle

There is a lot of Sony in Apple ... one can easily see the design influence of Sony on Apple. There is also a lot of intellectual capital in Sony. Some products can be terminated or sold-off, but at its hearts I think Sony will fit Apple perfectly. Sony will immediately bring Apple into the "internet of everything" realm that Samsung stand to gain so much from. Sony has much to offer Apple in the bigger picture ... will give it a much wider spread and reach. Similar corporate cultures. Can work. Seriously.

The day that Sony's local management told me to go get knotted [when I called to complain] was the day that I ceased purchasing Sony products.

Since that day I have purchased (thanks to a lightning strike) over R100K in TV and home theatre equipment, all without considering Sony.

I - for one - will be happy to dance on Sony's grave ...

+1000 .. exactly the same experience

Sony have IGNORED the consuemr for far too long, and are paying the price .. re-engineering memory cards to create their own, adaptors, connectors .. and then SHOCKING service when something goes wrong.

cheers Sony .. perfectly happy to close the door behind you ... wont miss you at all ..

(PS : So glad I have an Xbox :P )

I wouldnt be sad if the happened.
I just think the acquisition would be complex

You are correct, it would take Apple more into the living room etc.

But I have seen acquisitions fail based on
* Being forced to take the stuff Apple doesnt want
* Culture issues - Apple are strongly centralised in California. Sony in Japan. The Sony management challenges are well know and the buyer would want to gain firm control

Apple need something else even more - Web Services.
I like Apple but they need to catch up here.
