Can u block WhatsApp

May be better to not block the in-laws like, WhatsApp may be the only thing keeping them occupied instead of them being bored and grumpy and turning their sights onto you if you catch my drift lol.
Yep you are right. But they take care of my twins, so they have their hands full already. And its not going to be permanent.

Get yourself a Disney Circle, then you create a groups for everyone Dad, Mom, Kids, In-Laws and Domestic etc and you can block or allow apps as you want Whatsapp is one of them apps you can control. You can also say how much internet time that group is allowed in the day, and also allow certain apps all the time.

Nice to have when your kids are older, if they grow up with it in place then its normal to only have x amount of time per day.

Step 1:
Use a spare modern or WiFi access point.
On this device, create an SSID with the same name and password as your current setup.
DON'T connect this device to the internet. It ain't connected to nothing!

Step 2:
On your main router, change the SSID and password to some secret stuff.
Connect all your and your family's phones, tablets, etc to the new SSID

All done. Now you and the family can continue happily. The outlaws and the Dom will connect to the dummy WiFi, as they already have the SSID and password programmed in. When they complain of no internet access, scratch around a bit, then say you can't find any fault. If they get narfy, scratch some more and "accidently" factory-reset their phone. No more problems...

You didn’t seriously think Wi-Fi would have such a security flaw right? The dummy network will ask for the password again.

So? They obviously know the password. They can just keep it in...

Then the easier solution is to blacklist their MAC address but that doesn’t solve the problem or look like an ‘act of god’.
So not “Hey how come you have internet but not me”
to rather “Something is wrong with WhatsApp but everything else is fine”

This sounds super petty and passive aggressive tbh... The domestic is one thing, but your in laws?

Install a 2nd wifi router with same name as your current router SSID and same password, throttle the pooh out of it for anyone joining it, including domestic and out laws

Now rename your existing lekker router and password and hide the SSID and boom, you have full access for yourself and kid

Disabling WhatsApp will inevitably affect Facebook's other apps when they finish consolidation of their infrastructure this year.

If there's a specific issue with access to social media, have a discussion with your domestic worker and your in-laws.

If you still want a technical solution, this guide gives you the steps to do it properly:

To work around the block, set your devices to a static IP outside of the blocked IP range that you set up in the access control menu.

Edit: Keep in mind the following warning at the bottom of the guide:

Under this Default Filtering Rules,if we choose “Allow the packets not specified by any enabled access control policy to pass through the Router”,that means by default it allow internet to all devices, and it will only Block the created rules to use internet.
If we choose “Deny the packets not specified by any enabled access control policy to pass through the Router”,that means by default it blocks all internet, and it will only Allow the created rules to use internet.

Setting the policy to Allow won't break internet access entirely.

Nope.

Regular WiFi is quite brain dead. It doesn’t care for anything more than a given SSID matching a PSK and then just soldiers on.

That’s exactly why MitM attacks work.

Get yourself a PiHole and then add all the whatsapp domains to the blocklist. Works like a charm.
