Can Vodacom and MTN cope with increased data demand?

The 3 CEO said that the key to pricing is competition, and that as long as there is healthy competition in a market good pricing, innovation and high quality of service always follow.

And there's the rub folks, we DON'T have competition letalone healthy competition.
When (if) we get that, I think that the mobile networks would discover their current provisioning is way short of what the demand would actually be.

They know what their demand will be at lower prices, and they wouldn't be able to cope.

That is why they keep prices high !

Interesting to see how cocky MTN and Vodacom are. I can't speak for MTN, but accessing the Internet via BIS on my BlackBerry is a painful process, quie often. I basically NEVER get 3G speeds... My sources at Vodacom revealed there is a capacity problem relating to BIS... and in the mean time they keep promoting BIS like crazy! Ahead of the curve? I think not.

Thanks for mentioning this - i was thinking about getting a 9700, specifically for BIS, but now? no bloody way!
